Misabelle's gone?
My knees gave out and Jace quickly scooped me up into his arms, running me back to the bed. I didn't hear what he was saying but it didn't matter for seconds later he was out of the room, racing off with Caine. I rolled over onto my side and got to my feet shakily, walking over to the door and opened it. I frowned when I saw Esbeth standing there like she was gaurding anyone from leaving or entering my room.
"Laylee, get back in the bed."
"But Jace-"
"He'll be back. He wasn't given the Alpha gene for nothing. It's really hard to kill him."
"I need to help-"
"No! Laylee, what are you going to do to help when you're just a human? Don't you read those werewolf books? You know how dangerous rogues are."
"Esbeth, please. Just let me try to-"
"I hate to do this, Laylee, but you've left me no other choice."
There was a pinch on my arm and I looked down to find a huge syringe sticking out from it. Esbeth pushed the greenish liquid into my bloodstream. My body went limp and she caught me, carrying me to the bed and setting me down on it. Her eyes were full of regret but she kept me pinned down until I couldn't move thanks to the drug. I started fading from consciousness and shot one last terrified look up at Esbeth. Right before I fell into darkness, I heard her whisper while stroking my hair.
"I'm so sorry, baby girl."

I woke up later to Jace cradling me, his head buried in my hair. My eyes were heavy, but I forced them open, knowing that Jace was worried and need proof that I was okay. I rubbed at my eyes and cuddled closer to him, blinking my eyes slowly and peered up at his face.
"How long was I out?"
"A week." He growled out and his grip on my tightened. "She gave you a werewolf tranquilizer. You could've died!"
"I'm sure it was a mistake. Don't be mad at her. It's not her fault. She was trying to protect me."
"Oh? What happened?"
"Well..." I looked down at my hands and chewed on my lip. "I kinda was trying to get out and go help you."
He stiffened and I held my breath, scared of his reaction. I found myself suddenly on my back on the bed, with him frowning down at me. He had me pinned by the shoulders and I turned my head away from him in shame.
"Laylee, I'm an Alpha. Only other Alphas can kill me. I was in no danger."
"I-I didn't know..."
He sighed and dropped his head onto my shoulder, then stiffened. "Damn, this is bad."
"What?"
His gaze lifted to mine and I saw that his green eyes were glowing brightly. I'd read enough books to know that was a sign of his wolf getting closer to the surface. It should've scared me, but instead I felt pulled towards it, towards him.
"Laylee, you're on your period. It's a male wolf's nature to try and impregnate the female so that he can have heirs."
My eyes widened and I stared up at him, watching as he squeezed his eyes shut and his jaw tightened. He looked like he was in pain, so I kissed his cheek, wanting to take away his pain. Suddenly he was kissing me passionately and pressing me into the bed. I moaned, my thoughts racing from immediate attention. I wrapped my arms around Jace's waist and pulled him closer to me.
