"Ugh!" You cry in annoyance, slamming your phone down onto your couch. Even as it sat there, it buzzed and lit up to continuous notifications. This has been going on for the past couple nights, and you weren't quite sure how much longer it would be before you hid the device where you'd never have to hear it again.

He's been texting you for the past two nights. It began when you beat him at a game online, and now, he wants nothing more than a rematch and a cry of vengeance. You - being a rather busy and easily bored young lady - had no interest in playing a game you had already beat, and declined this creep.

Only, he didn't care.

He texted you at the worst times possible during the day - at school, on dates, while studying... The virtual torture was endless, and you wanted nothing more than to kick this guy in the jaw. If only you knew who he was. Maybe you'd be able to settle this score in person.

Your cell begins to ring, in which you roll your eyes and pick it up to see who it could be. You were pleasantly surprised to find that it was your best friend, Mihael. You press the green button flashing on the screen and hold the phone up to your ear.

"Hello?"

"Let's go to a burger joint I found." Mihael was always quick to the point. "I heard the food's pretty awesome."

"Okay," you shrug. You had nothing else better to do. "When you thinking?"

"Tomorrow at noon. Oh, and don't think this is a date, either. I'm bringing another buddy along with."

You shiver at the thought of the last date the two of you shared. It was painfully awkward and forced to the point of undeniable stress. In the end, Mihael cracked a not-so-funny joke, in which you faked a laugh so terribly that you snorted your drink all over your date. Mihael was pissed, but he got over it, and so did you.

Yes, best friends is definitely both of your best interests.

"That's fine with me."

Mihael hangs up on the other side, and you sigh and do the same. You decide to put your phone on silence, set it on your bedside table, and have an at least halfway-decent rest of your evening.

~~~
The next day, you drove your Saab (<- one of the safest vehicles ever) to the address Mihael had given you last night. The parking lot was packed. You groan, being one to hate crowded social settings, but manage to find a lone parking space all the same.
This better be worth it, you think begrudgingly.
You grit your teeth as you exit the car. The late autumn air hits your face with a chilly force, and you pull the scarf around your neck just beneath your pink nose.
You enter the building, and spot Mihael right away. He wasn't hard to miss - he had chin-length blonde hair and a huge, blotchy scar on the left side of his face, all the while being completely engulfed in leather.
"Yo, [y/n]." He always sounded like he was commanding rather than requesting. "This is my buddy from college, Mail Jeevas. He prefers to be called Matt."
"Hey," you wave.
Then, you did a bit of a double-take. Matt was not too shabby at all. He was tall and lean and wearing very flattering stripes. His hair was a dark crimson red, hanging over his forehead in bangs. For whatever reason, he chose to wear a pair of amber-tinted goggles. You wouldn't mind seeing his eyes...
"She's pretty cute," Matt grins shamelessly. "What's your name, babe?"
"[y/n] [l/n]," you answer stiffly, turning your eyes away. Something about his cocky attitude was quite familiar, but you weren't sure where you knew it from.
"Don't creep her out, Matt," Mihael growls, hitting his friend's shoulder.
"Table for three?" A young waiter smiles, waiting for the three of you to follow him to the place that was reserved for you. With Mihael and Matt chatting ahead, and you trailing behind, you are seated at a table right by the window.
You sat across from the two boys, staring awkwardly after each of you had ordered. They did the same in turn. Sighing, you knew that if you didn't break the ice, no one would. Boys were so weird.
"So, Matt," you smile forcefully, "where are you from?"
"I flew in from Vermont," he smirks. "Wanted to try out the University of California down here. I had a scholarship to go anywhere I wanted." He must've caught your expression, because he then almost-irritably said, "I'm a lot smarter than I look, y'know."
"I gotta take a whizz," Mihael says abruptly, standing up from the table and walking off to the restroom. You cringe at his amazing vocabulary, and at being left alone with this Matt from Vermont.
Matt looks at you through his amber-tinted goggles with so much intensity, you had to break eye contact with him. He doesn't falter. You were beginning to get frustrated, so finally, you say, "What's your problem?!"
"What's yours?" Matt snaps back at you. "I been waiting for you to accept my rematch request, but you're as persistent as ever!"
"What...?" Suddenly, your gaze hardens. Matt was the game creeper?! You felt angry, and for some reason, elated.
"Don't act coy, Name-Chan165." (That username though, XD)
"Good gravy, you've been bugging me for the past how many days over this stupid rematch, and you somehow end up meeting me - wait, how'd you know it was me?!"
"A little blonde birdy told me," Matt shrugs. "Now. How about that rematch?"
For some reason, you didn't seem to mind playing the game again.
"Sure," you grin shrewdly. "Don't cry too hard when you lose."
