I always watched the girl with the pink hair from behind - observing her movements, watching how she interacted with others. People whispered about her behind her back, so it wasn't like I was the only one watching her this way. I think she's the biggest influence on the rumors floating around school these days.

Violent, they all warned me. And very cynical, too. But those aren't the worst things about her.

Yes, supposedly, her personality isn't the thing that made this young lady one to be spoken about. No - apparently, it was something that mattered much, much more to people around here.

The worst thing about Luka Megurine...

The worst thing was...

How completely hideous she is behind her hair.

That's right. Her face. Her face was the main thing that brought people to bring around these cruel rumors - these horrible names - and my spiked interest towards this Luka Megurine.

Supposedly, she was in a horrible fight just last year and was cut just above her nose and on her forehead. Thick white scars formed in the course of seven months, and it took a while for her to heal. When she came back, Luka - a girl that was never noticed before - became the main talk of it all.

One day, I was milling around in the courtyard of our school. Cherry blossom trees sprouted from the ground and spread their pink petals around. A true sign of Spring. I adored the Springtime. The sun tasted sweet on my skin, and the grass was more lush and green than any other time in the year.

Spring was a simple beauty.

And that's when I saw her. The pink haired enigma sat beneath the blossoming trees with her nose in a book, one leg crossed over the other. Her bangs framed all around her so as to hide her face, her delicate and long fingers wrapped themselves around her book, and there she was. Perhaps in her most vulnerable state.

I'm not sure was possessed me to sit beside her. But when I did, I could actually smell her. She smelled of something sweeter than the cherry blossom trees around us. When she looked up at me, I was not looking at her scars, but at her shocking blue eyes.

I saw her lips move, but I didn't hear anything come out. I was frozen. Suddenly, I feel a dull pain spiking in my head. My hands fly up to the tender spot before I register what had happened.

"I asked you, what are you doing here?!" Luka demanded.

Feisty, eh?~

"I'm sitting next to a psychotic pink haired chick," I grumble irritably. "What'd you hit me with? A pole?"

"I hit you with my fists," Luka replies nonchalantly. "It seemed to be the only way for you to get out of your head. Your head is a dangerous place to be."

You say the strangest things, I thought, getting a closer look at this young lady. They sure were right when they said you were violent. They just left out the philosophical attitude that came with it.

"Miss Luka," I begin sweetly, "where do you get all of this? Where did you learn to fight?"

Yes, that's right. Small talk should do the trick.

"Poetry," she says softly. "I love poetry." For a second there, her eyes grew soft and a more serene expression crossed her face. Suddenly, her expression hardened. "As for the fighting skills, I believe that to be a personal question."

"Well, they were both personal questions," I chuckle. "You just didn't like that one." She gave me a quizzical look, to which I responded with, "but that's okay. I don't like to answer some questions, myself."

"Why are you here? What do you want?" Luka demands, as if not hearing a single word I said.

Cynical.

"The things they say about you aren't completely true," I say quietly.

"They say the truth," Luka disagrees. "That is, the truth of the side of me I decided to show them."

"Huh."

I stand up from the bench as the cherry blossom petals catch in my hair. She glances up to me, waiting. Waiting. Finally, I share with her my parting words.

"I enjoyed talking to you. Can we do this tomorrow?"
