Leah's POV
Tick, tock, tick, tock
I anxiously watch the clock above the dirty white board click away.
Another minute of my life wasted learning about the stupid fucking cells in our body.
I slyly got my earbuds and snaked them up my hoodie, then up my hoodie sleeve to the point I had the buds in my hand. I started playing Blue Neighborhood through my earbuds and rested my head on my hand, so I could hear the aesthetic album play.
I slightly hear the teacher introducing someone.
"Hey, Leah. Isn't that your old friend?" My best friend, Jacqueline, whispers to me.
I remove my earbuds and look up at the teenage, brunette boy who used to be my best friend. I smiled lightly at the sight of him all grown up.
Puberty did him right, lucky bitch.
"So, you can go find a seat wherever you can find one." Our 57 year old teacher tells him with a warm smile. He nods and smiles back at her before walking to a seat , 3 desks in front of me.
We make slight eye contact , before I turn my head to the clock again.
I can never make eye contact with a cute boy without blushing. God dammit.
"Ooh, someone's blushing" Jackie smirks and I lightly punch her.
"You know I blush whenever I make eye contact with a hot guy.." I mumble.
"Aww, you think he's hot. You guys should date." Jackie winks and I mentally face palm.
"Boy, you know I can't flirt or make a move on anyone. Maybe I can rekindle my friendship with him though" I sigh before looking at the back of Joel's head.
"Rekindle...that's the biggest word I've heard today. Good job, mrs dictionary" Jackie plays and the bell finally rings.
I exit the classroom and start walking to my locker.
"Nice to see you again, leahbug" I turn around and cringe at the old nickname he gave me.
"You too Joelbear" I Smile and he returns the smile before lightly blushing.
"Is it cool if I, uh, sit with you at lunch? I don't really have any other friends here..." He scratches the back of his neck and looks at me.
"Of course, be warned. I kinda sit with the 'popular' group of people. Although, we aren't really the stereotypical popular group. We're all quite nice. Come on let's go" I nod my head in the direction of the lunch room and he quickly follows.
"So, what brings you to this old, boring town again?" I ask him while we walk to the lunch room.
"I'm, uh, living with my grandma. My parents got in a car crash." He mumbles.
"Wow...at least you know that they're happy now and that they're watching over you. Wishing you the best of luck here." I smile at him again. I hate when people say I'm sorry after they hear about someone's loss. I'm sorry doesn't help, but letting them know that they're lost loved one is happy and looking out for them will.
"Thanks, I kinda expected you to say I'm sorry like everyone else."
"You know for a fact I'm not like everyone else" I lightly laugh
"That is a true fact.."
We get to the lunchroom and I quickly find my friends in our usual spot.
