***TY'S POV***
He did it. Sky really, actually, did it. He reversed my aura twice. I'm immortal now. I can be with Ashley now. I can be happy! I can have everything I've ever wanted, and because Seto has Sierra, I don't have to worry about conflicts. Thank Notch. Thank Sky, really. This was all his doing, and Seto's too, I suppose. Normally that would surprise me, but he's got a sorceress to keep him company now, so I guess Ashley just sort of left his mind. I wonder how he does it. Get Ashley out of his head, I mean. I just can't seem to do it.
After the Stitching, I have some pain in my wrists and I'm really tired, but that doesn't stop me from going into Ashley's tent anyway. I need to talk to her, just to make sure she doesn't fall for Nooch or someone while I'm gone.
Thankfully, when I enter her tent she's the only one there. This makes me realize that Sierra isn't there. Sierra is my friend, I hope she didn't leave the expedition. I'll miss her if she does. She saved my life, and Ashley's. That's like saving my life twice. And believe me, we need a person like that around.
I assume she's in Seto's tent or something, probably hanging out with him. I mean, Seto and Sierra are a little magical couple now, so that wouldn't surprise me.
It's not like that really matters. Ashley's here, and I'm here, and we can be together forever. That's all that matters.
Ashley's asleep with her head on the pillow that rests on top of her sleeping bag, which has been unfolded to allow her to stretch out her wings will she sleeps. Yeah, it's kind of difficult being a dragon-demon, but somehow you get used to it. Sierra's sleeping bag -- which is kind of raggedy and a dull blue color -- is folded up neatly in the corner, so I know she wasn't forced to leave. That settles my conscience a bit.
I smile at Ashley and walk over to her without speaking. I slip my slightly scale covered hand into hers and the feeling of the warmth from my body wakes her, as she opens her deep brown eyes and blinks a few times, looking startled.
"Ty?" She says, still trying to clear her vision.
"I did it." I say quietly, letting my words flow out. "I missed you while I was gone. I'm sorry, I didn't know, I thought -- I just -- I can't even understand why I did something so rash and stupid. I'm sorry, but I'm here now and I'm never going away."
Ashley gives me a look of sympathy, and I watch as her brows furl for a moment while her lips curve into a slight frown. However, she quickly wipes those emotions away, replacing them with a smile.
"Ty, I don't really want to put this, but didn't you remember what I said at the confession thing? It's totally true about me being immortal, and I know that you and me had a thing, but I don't know how I could live with myself if--"
I cut her off by crashing my lips on hers, startling her. But only for a moment, as soon she drapes her arms over my shoulders and my hands move down to the small of her back, holding her close to me and not wanting her to ever leave me. Our lips move in sync as if we've done this a million times before, though we haven't. It's just natural, the way we move, the way we seem to complete each other.
I feel her wings spread out before me, so I unfold mine too. Without warning, she pushes me forward and I stumble out of the tent, trying to keep my balance so neither of us fall. She folds her wings in until they are enveloping me completely, and I immediately know she wants to do. We pull apart for a moment to get some air, as flying is exhausting. Once we've regained our breath, I quietly whisper the word, "One..."
I watch her eyes sparkle in the moonlight.
                              "Two..."
She shifts nervously, transferring her weight from foot to foot and stretching out her wings a bit more.
                              "Three."
Our wings pull forward first and then backward as we remain held close to each other, never wanting to let go, never wanted to feel the absence ever again. Soon we're in the sky, moving farther and farther away from the people, from the camp, and from our friends. We rise until we're about 300 feet above the camp, looking at the tents like little brown specks and the dying fire that resembles a lightning bug. Up here, above the camp, we are too far away for anybody to see us. Up too high for anybody to try and hurt us. Far out of reach anybody trying to shout at us. Up here, we are free. We are braver than anything else, stronger than any creature of the sky. We are invincible.
In that already perfect moment we kiss again, holding each other closer, if that's even possible. As our lips move we begin to spin slowly in circles in the air, swirling through the night sky among the stars and the clouds. Let me tell you, it takes the word lighthearted to a whole new level, in every aspect of the word.
I slowly remove my hands from around Ashley's waist and then take hers from around my neck until we're holding hands. I slowly pull away from her and I can see the longing in her eyes as the distance between us gets greater. She wants this is much as I do, which makes me smile even more.
"I'm never going anywhere." I say and I allow her to examine my wrists with the scars from the Stitchings, which are quickly healing because of my Dragon metabolism.
I watch her beautiful brown eyes go from kind of confused to shocked to ecstatic as her thumbs feel over the scars, and I smile at her happiness.
"I love you," she says, sounding like she's about to cry.
I gently stroke her hair and smile, pulling myself closer to her until my mouth is right next to her ear, and I whisper those words I have wanted to say for I don't even know how long.
                              "I love you too."
