Macy

I sent Dom with one of my soldiers to get a canteen and set up with a few supplies, I stayed with Sophie because I had to tuck her in bed.

"Are you my mommy?" Sophie asked suddenly
"What? Why would you ask that sweetie?"
"Because you and daddy take care of me and you're the only really pretty lady with my daddy," she explained
"Well that's very sweet, I guess. But Sophie I think you'll have to talk to your daddy about that, okay?"
"Oh, will he make you my mommy?"
"You're asking a lot of questions young lady," I kissed her forehead, "Goodnight."
"Night night."

Sophie curled up under the thin blanket and closed her eyes. I stood off the mattress and checked the soldiers who were sleeping peacefully. If you call sleeping in a rotting and cold high school peaceful.

I returned to my room and Sophie was sound asleep so I was free to relax. I went behind my curtain and lifted a floorboard that hid the leather jacket Dom gave me six years ago. I held it close and remembered the day he gave it to me and held me close after Gordon died.

"Did you miss me?" Dom's voice made me jump and pulled me out of my day dreaming
"What?"
"I said, did you miss me?" He repeated
"I was just a fan, Dom. And we only talked that day. It's like having a neighbor who loved by you for a while then moved."

"But did you miss me?"
"Why would I miss you?"
"Well I was only assuming since you're hugging my jacket," Dom shrugged
"Did you miss me?" I asked the question this time
"I was gone for six hours and you were just some fan I met. Why would I miss you?"
"Well I was only assuming since you gave me your jacket that I meant something so it would make sense you would miss me."

"I didn't miss you," he stated
"Good I didn't miss you either." We stood in front of each other with our arms crossed. Dom smirked, then that smile turned into a smile, then the smile turned into a laugh.

"Listen to us, we sound like children. I'll admit, I did worry about you back on the boats. And when I woke up I was missing you," Dom admitted
"I missed you too, Dominic Howard."

We sat together on my mattress next to Sophie and I watched her sleep. Every little thing I heard, I flinched and reached for the pistol I have in my boot.

"Ssh. You need rest," Dom whispered
"How can I rest with all this going on? Every night since this has started, I haven't slept. I close my eyes but sleep never comes. I dream about how and if I will be able to go on if I lost Matt, Chris, Tom, and now Sophie. We've had four break ins from the outside and we almost lost Kelly during the last one."

"I'm so sorry I wasn't here with you."
"It's not your fault, you had no choice. You had to get on the other boat."
"I could've stayed. I could've built my own raft or something-"
"And then what? What if you got lost?"

Dom was quiet after that and put his arm around me. I leaned into him and felt at peace for once. This is crazy, I only talked to him for a few hours. I lived without him for six years, but it's only been hours for him. How did that even happen?

"Dom, you never told me why you were gone for six years," I looked up at him and waited
"When we got on the boats, my boat was going slower than yours. They stopped and said it was the gas and waited until your boat was far enough from us. But then, the soldiers looked at us and went on about how all humans should die. Then they began to attack everyone. I grabbed a fire extinguisher to at least try fighting them. I got knocked over board and started drowning. When I woke up, I was on a ship. A space ship. There was a man, well an alien but he looked like a proper human man, called The Doctor. He told me I was asleep for six hours. I asked him to bring me to you guys. I ended up on the beach and you know the rest."

I smiled at his explanation, not the part about him drowning but about the space ship.

"Funny name to call yourself, The Doctor. Doctor who?" I heard him chuckle. "Do you remember what he looks like?"
"Yeah. Tall, really skinny, really great hair, brown suit-"
"Wait! I think I know who he is! He bumped into me at the concert and gave me the screwdriver saying happy birthday!"
"He told me to ask you about it. He said to keep it because it could save lives..."
"Well now I definitely can't sleep," I laughed lightly

"No no, you need sleep. Come on," Dom laid down on his back and pulled me down with him. I laid my head on his chest and listened to his heartbeat
"Goodnight Dominic."
"Goodnight Macy."

Matt

My shift ended and the group for the second half of the night shift came in. I went into high command and straight to the music room to be with my daughter and Macy. Usually Macy is awake watching Sophie, but tonight wasn't the case.

Sophie was on her own mattress while Macy and Dom were asleep together on another. I felt like I got stabbed right in the chest and I recognized that feeling, I've felt it many times before.

I tiptoed to Sophie's mattress and laid down next to her. She stirred awake and looked at me. I put a finger to my lips for her to keep quiet and she went back to sleep. I watched Macy and Dom sleep for a few minutes, I hate how natural they look together.
