Chapter XXI - The Kraken

Dian

"Rabbit Heart (Raise it up)" - Florence and the Machines.

It had been four days upon the Posiedon's Storm, or so Dian thought. Over the time Anthony's sword had become lighter on her hip and in her grip. Each training session it became easier and easier to swing and jab the blade at her opponents. Her heart still ached at the sound of her brothers names.

Between sparring sessions her book was being filled with information she had gathered from the crew, who she now called friends. The sailing had gotten easier for her, though Gyrin had gotten sick. "There's no trees, no land," he trembled and sweated. She was starting to worry about him. He needed to connect to the Earth soon. . . He was doing his best to stay sane.

Among that was the Captain, once she thought he was a threat, but now? She could see that without him the crew, including Dian would be lost. He was friendly to everyone, yet authoritative enough to keep everyone going and happy. She was even getting use to his Spirit, Elize. Elize was an unusually large white tiger, he had the same blue eyes and icy aurora as the Captain. He was always by his side, and if not he was asleep somewhere, waiting.

Dian leaned against the side of the boat, watching the waves crash against the island's shore. It wouldn't be long till they reach Amarathine. They were looking for answers, but Dian couldn't see how they could get them from a city, even if they did speak to a Goddess there.

A loud, shrill, gurgling noise came from in the water. Following the ship were many humanoid creatures. They smiled and waved, their bodies made of water themselves. They swam like dolphins, diving in and out of the water. They giggled and played.

"What is all that noise?" The Captain asked and mirrored Dian. His arms crossed against the railing and leaning over.

"Hello Captain!" The voices said together happily. It was almost flirtatious.

The Captain shook his head and turned his back on them. He was chuckling to himself and smiles at Dian crookedly. "Those are Water Sprites if you didn't know."

"Like Ruza?" Dian asked, she looked down at the creatures again. They were friendly mannered and made of the same substance they were surrounded by just like Ruza.

"Yeah, just a different element. They're great company."

"So you're into Water Sprites now?"

Ruza had appeared out of no where, startling Dian but not the Captain. She crossed her arms over her chest and eyed him up and down.

"Uh, ah, no. I love air! Air is everywhere! I can't live without it!" He was a awkward mess. In a way, it could have been funny or adorable.

Ruza smiles and kissed his cheek. "Of course you can't." She floated away, leaving to make someone else into a jabbering mess.

Dian grew to love Ruza, but at times she could be scary. She could be anywhere at any moment and no one would know. Sometimes she wondered if she needed to hold her breath around her. Would she breath in her finger? Her hair? She wasn't sure and she tried not to think about it to much.

"I love her." The Captain said honestly. She could tell by the soft tone of his voice and the glimmer in his eyes he was telling the truth.

"Is Gyrin any better?"

The Captain became suddenly sober. "No. He's still weak and pale. If you want to see him he may be awake now. The healer said he was starting to sleep less."

Dian's body felt numb. She felt as if he was slipping away from her already in the short time she's known him. "I'm going to go see him. Thank you."
