Chapter III - The Boy of the Forest
"No Such Thing" John Mayer
Dian
"We'll leave early in the morning," Anthony said.
"Leave where?" Rick asked.
Dian waited for Anthony to reply, they'd need to tell him.
"A book camp off. Nothing you'd be interested in," Anthony lied.
Her mouth fell open, he had flat out lied. Completely with ease. Rick wrinkled up his nose in disgust.
"You two are so weird."
Rick shook his head and walked away up the stairs. Dian watched as he went. Then Anthony moved, going through some of the loaded boxes, getting out cans and water and sat them on the bar.
"What do you think you're doing lying to him?" She yelled. Anthony didn't respond for a while. She watched him pull a pack from one of the cabinets. A big black bag, he stuffed every item on the counter inside it and walked off.
"Its for the best. He can't know. Besides its not the first time, this world you've gotten yourself in to, that I got myself in to. Its dangerous."
"What about all the food you're taking? We have to leave it here-"
"We'll need it more than him. The time is different in the faery world than here. Sometimes faster, sometimes slower. When mom and dad get home their bringing more so it won't be to long till new stuff gets here. He won't miss it."
"Wait, how long could we be gone?" she asked, scared now even more than I had been.
"Days, weeks in faery world I hope. Here, we could be gone for minutes, days, even years before we get back." His voice was tight at the mention of being gone from them for years. Would they look for us? Forget us? Would they have thought we died?
"We can't risk that," Dian said planting her feet, she hoped she looked stubborn and challenging.
"Its better than not having a home to live in, Di."
He had a point.
Dian bit her lip and groaned. She wouldn't win this, she doubted she could even do this a bit. She gave up on trying to talk Anthony out of it again and went up stairs to pack her things.
Once in her room, her computer screen blinked at her. She answered the call, and Owen's face appeared on screen. "Well you're up early."
Owen yawned in response. He had little bags underneath his eyes but they were wide with the kick of caffeine. "You okay? You look like a car hit you."
"You could say that," she said and picked up her camping back pack and started sorting through her piles of clothing.
"What is going on?" Owen was alert and watched as she stuffed the clothes distressed in to the pack.
"No, its not alright." But she can't tell him. Can she? She couldn't get the word 'faeries' out. Something was stopping her, she couldn't say it, shouldn't say it. 'Its to dangerous' Anthony had said. Dangerous how? She didn't want to find out but she knew she would. "I'm just a little frustrated. Anthony and I are going camping, you probably won't hear from me anytime soon."
"Oh," Owen sounded surprised and relived. She bit her lip again to keep from saying more, she didn't like lying. Not to him a bit. "Well that's cool have fun."
She nodded not wanting to say anymore than she had too. She picked up her sleeping bag and stuffed it inside, along with her toothbrush, hairbrush and other things she'd need.
