Chapter XVII - What Doesn't Get Me, Kills
Dian
Her head swarmed and swayed, at least she was warm and not laying on the hard ground she thought to herself fighting to awake.
It was dark, and sitting up she tried to take in her surroundings. A fire flickered, casting shadows on the cave, one of them was Gyrin's huntched figure. He shook quietly and solemly, his hands covering his face.
"Gyrin?" She whispered, then the softness below her shifted and she screamed jumping away.
The creature she had been laying on was larg and had a humanoid figure. It was covered in dark brown fur, and muscles. Its head was like a wolf, large black nose, small golden eyes and pointed fur ears. It was sick to look at and wrong.
"Shh, Dian, please calm down." Gyrin's voice was soft and croaky over the pounding of her heart. The cave pressed against her back as the wolf man stood up and towered over her. Her knees shook, she couldn't run away from him in time before he'd get her.
"Its okay, Aatu saved us. He won't hurt us." Gyrin then stood between her and the wolfman - Aatu - his face was red and puffy. Blood was smeared from his nose and ears.
"You are welcome child," Aatu said, at least that's what it had sounded like. Almost like a dog was trying to speak. He nodded towards her and walked away to the fire, and poked at it like it was nothing.
"Where's Anthony?" Dian asked, just then realizing that Gyrin, Aatu and her were alone in the cave. "Gyrin. . .?"
He was lost, his eyes wide and scared. "No. . ." She was breaking inside, her nerves on in her heart pounded out of her ears and she felt as if she was going to be sick. "No!"
She took off running outside, the cold didn't bother her. "Dian, no!" Gyrin called for her but she couldn't hear him over the rain, getting soaked to the bone and nearly blind she stumbled to the dark lump on the shore.
Falling to her knees she reached down and rolled him over. Starring into the sky, he smiled with blue lips, the rain washing the blood away. "Anthony." She pulled her hands away from the cold body, he had already became stiff and frozen.
She became to scream, shaking and crying. She was being ripped apart from the inside out, her heart about to explode, she had lost him, she was alone, but she lost him.
She fell apart on him, the rain soaking through her clothes and covering them both, but she didn't care. She didn't care, she couldn't feel it. Gyrin's presence was noticable, but barely. His arms around her and his body pressed to her back was a dual reminder she wasn't alone in pain.
"We can't stay here for long."
Of course.
"I want to go home," she whimpered burrying her face into his shoulder, he held her closer, rocking her.
He wouldn't want you too go back.
It was the truth, and deep down she knew. She was angry then, angry that she got them in this mess, angry that he had never told her and was insentent that they had to fix it.
"I'll take you home. . . I promise."
Suddenly, it didn't feel right anymore, she couldn't go.
She didn't know what she was doing numbly, she pushed away and patted his body down, searching for the buckle, she pulled his belt off with the sword sheath. Almost to heavy, she let it fell and pulled the sword out with the handle and stood.
It shined in the moonlight, full of secrets but would protect her, protect them both. Just like Anthony.
