Chapter 3

Vallory POV

"You don't have to tell me everything. Just where you got the mark." Liam said. " I thought I could open up to him, but now that he is actually here, I'm terrified. "Promise not to judge?" I asked. He reached down and placed his hand in mine, intertwining our fingers together. "I promise." He said, slowing our pace. "My mom, did this to me." I muttered. His eyes widened. "Why would she do that? She's your mom." Liam asked concerned. "It's been like this since I was fourteen. You're useless, you're a bitch, go to hell, lazy ass cunt'. Everyday those words would come out of her mouth. I was bullied, a lot in grade school. I was constantly getting into fights. I often skipped school to avoid the bullying. Most kids, get bullied at school, then come home to a loving family. But me? Ha. Love is only a dream for me. My mom hates me; she said so when sister died in a car accident. My mom was driving. My sister and I were messing around in the back seat, singing and laughing. I was thirteen, my sister was eleven. She meant the world to me. My mom turned around and told us to stop. When she did, she lost control of the car. We ran off the road and into another car. They hit on my sister's side. She was killed instantly. I was left in the hospital with a broken leg. My mom was fine. Sometimes, my mom says to me, 'I wish it was you instead.' And I wish it was me too. Ever since my sister died, my mom has treated me terribly. She said it was my fault she died. I believed her." I said. He just looked at me as tears were threatening to fall. "And that's why, I have these." I said, letting go of Liam's hand. I pulled up my jacket sleeves and showed him my battle wounds. His eyes widened. He took my hand in his and traced the scars with his fingers. Slowly, he brought my wrist to his lips and pressed a kiss to it. "I've never shown anyone these. Nobody. I know I just met you, but I feel like you're my best friend." I said wiping the tears away. "I will be your best friend. I will always be there for you. We just met, but I feel closer to you than I have ever felt to anyone else in a long time, and that's saying something." He said, wiping at his eyes, then lacing our fingers together again. I smiled, genuinely smiled. I finally had a friend i can tell everything to. Liam took out his phone and called all his friends, telling them to meet him at the park. One of the friends he called sounded familiar. Zayn. I felt like I've known him before from his accent. Brushing it off, we continued to walk. When we reached the park, four boys ran towards Liam and engulfed him in a bro hug. Liam let go of my hand to hug them back. They all stood in a line as Liam introduced them and that's when I felt something. I looked all of them in the eyes and stopped at the last boy. Squinting, I walked towards him. That's when it snapped. I knew Zayn. Zayn Malik was my cousin.
