I had grown a lot since the day I'd lost my parents. Those were painful memories that I knew would stick with me forever. I wanted to forget. I wanted it to all go away, but I knew that was not possible.

It was morning now and birds were chirping. Lily awoke and came to me. "Hey, what are you thinking about?" She asked me.

I reluctantly looked to her. "Nothing...just...my parents...I miss them," I said.

"I know, I do too," Lily replied. "Remember that time when it was raining outside and we kept splashing each other in mud puddles? We got so dirty!"

"Oh, yeah!" I smiled at the memory. It had been a long time since then, but it was still fresh in my mind. I was grateful to change the  subject. Little Creek came up  to  me and stroked my face. I whinnied  to him. Little Creek was not just anyone to me, he was my friend and he kept me calm the day I lost my parents. He tied a rope loosely around my neck and lead me into a corral for lunch.

Lily's human came to her and did the same. Lily and I were usually put into the same corral, the humans knew we were friends. I grazed on the grass and clovers with Lily until we were lead out of the corral. "Tag! You're it!" I exclaimed.

Lily chased after me, "Not for long!"

I galloped playfully as Lily chased me through a wide open field. The field was completely covered with monarch butterflies and flowers. They swarmed above in a wave of orange and black. I loved butterflies, especially when I got to chase them. Lily caught up to me and tagged me, then darted the other way.

A gunshot interrupted our excitement. I pricked my ears, alert. Lily jumped and turned around to see where the shot came from. There standing in front of us were five humans wearing dark  blue clothing.
