I woke up painfully, my head pounding and my legs aching. It was dawn. Slowly I tried to get up, then collapsed again. Suddenly I realized Lily was gone. Panic and pain took over me like a wave. Where is she? I wondered. "Lily?" I managed to say. I heard a groan and turned around. Lily was laying down at the edge of the shore. I saw where she had been shot, near her flank. Blood dripped from her wound and I cringed at the sight of her in pain.

I finally found the strength to stand. "Hey, Lily," I said.

Lily looked at me, then grimaced in pain. She tried to say something, but it was quiet, "Rain..."

"Yes, I'm here," I answered. "Than you, you saved my life."

Lily smiled a little. "Am...am I going...to be ok?" She said through short breaths.

Tears came to my eyes, "Of course you will." She has to be, she just has to.

As if Lily could read my mind, she said "Let's hope for the best." She might have said more, but she collapsed from exhaustion.

"I will get help," I murmured. I turned and galloped away, hoping to find the village again.
