Javier and I got into his car and drove off to a hotel. Apperantly, Javier had considered his options earlier and had decided just to be safe by bringing a few of his fathers credit cards and a wad of cash.
"So were really doing this" I said. "We're really running from your killer father"
"Yes were really doing it" Javier said. "And I know we haven't had much time to get to know each other. It was merely two weeks, but at least during this time we have, we can get to know each other"
"Javier, being friends with you takes some serious risks"
Didn't he realize what kind of danger was impacted upon me? Well if he didn't, I can tell you he should.
"I know" Javier said. "And I realize that. But let's just check into the hotel now and see how things go"
Javier went into the hotel while I waited in the car. When he returned we grabbed the money and walked in. We got one room for tonight on the third floor. When we walked in he closed the door.
"Okay" He said. "Now we just need to think of a plan how to stay alive and-"
"No now you just need to tell me everything. Like, why your father wants to kill me"
"It goes back to your parents" Javier explained. "Your dad kidnapped your mom"
"What? He would never do that. Why would mom love someone that kidnapped her?"
"Well it's a little hard to explain"
"What? There's something you aren't telling me isn't there" I said. "Why did my mom get kidnapped?"
"Your father was a vampire"
"There is no such thing"
"There is, and you have to believe it if you're going to survive"
"Okay, so let's just put that word into reality for now, so if he was a vampire then why did he kidnap mom?"
"He kidnaped her because she was a sweet blood. A sweet blood is someone who has a certain blood that only can be tasted by specific vampires. Your father was a specific vampire and he needed your mom's specific blood. He kidnapped her and after time, they fell in love. Drew was a badguy that they ran into along the way, and now that your mom is dead, Drew has an insane belief that he has to kill you too"
"But he looked like he was going to kill the both of us" I said.
"Well, yeah" Javier said. "My father is a little insane and needs serious help"
"I still think this is crazy"
"It is crazy" He said.
Later that night Javier took the bed and I took the couch. He'd fallen asleep with the TV on. I was busy checking missed calls and messages when I found Seth had left me a message.
Seth: Where are you? I've called the police already. Please answer your phone Paris
I sighed. What to say to my brother. If he knew that I was on the run from a murderer, he'd for sure come out to get me and drag me back. And then he would put me in a crazy home for admitting the truth about vampires. For some insane reason, I believed Javier. I didn't know why but whe I looked into his eyes, I just saw so much truth and trust within them.
I set my phone down and suddenly caught the edge of a book, peeking out from the floor. It looked like Javier had been reading it and had dropped it when he'd fallen asleep. I picked it up and flipped through the pages. On the cover said June's diary. Who was June?
Dear Diary,
life goes on without me. every day here is another tear to me. Now that I have sagged in these invisible chains a sorrowfull acception has come over me and I feel as though Stellar knows. He see's it in my eyes and he doesn't even care does he?
Stellar? Wasn't that my father? But my mother's name was Jasmine. And this was June's diary. Had Stellar kept a secret from my mother all of these years? Did he have an affair? Was she another kidnapped victim? So many unanswered questions were filled within my mind, it felt impossible to sleep.
But then I did fall asleep.
When I awoke that next morning Javier was waking me.
"Huh?" I said. "What's going on?"
"We have to check out" He said.
"Why now? It's so early" I covered my eyes to shield from the sun.
"My phone can track Drew's phone and tell where he is. He doesn't know about it but he's in the next town over and he's heading for the town were in. He's a few miles off, close enough to catch us by surprise. We have to go"
"What about breakfast?"
"We'll grab something on the way"
I got up and took my phone and some money he gave me. After checking out, in the car I asked Javier "What do you know about June's diary?"
"How do you know about that?" He asked.
"I read some of it last night, when I found it on the floor"
"It was just a diary of one of the victims Stellar kidnapped. She was a sweet blood too" Javier explained.
"How do you know all this?"
"Drew told me before he lost his mind"
"Oh"
After passing through three other towns Javier stopped at a rest area where I grabbed a muffin and a coffee. I was glad to have something to eat. Unfortunatly, it didn't ease my fear a bit.
"What should I tell Seth? He's already called the cops" I said.
"Tell him that you'll explain later" Javier said. "It's all I can offer you right now"
"So about what you said"
"What did I say?"
"About getting to know each other, why do you want that?"
Lights filled in Javier's eyes. It was like seeing the sunlight fill up inside someone. And it was the most incredible thing I'd ever seen.
"I guess I just want to get to know you" Javier said.
After breakfast we were back at his car, driving on through day. I texted Seth I'll explain everything later. And I promise to keep you in touch if I'm in trouble. I'm safe. Don't worry.
As soon as I sent the text I heard a police siren.
"Shit" Javier said and pulled over. A cop car came over and noticed us as the missing kids who'd run away from prom.
"You both are coming with me" He said and for the first time, I was escorted into a police car.
