Dear Brother

Dear brother,

You know, when you lose someone you love

You think that no one understands how you feel

I thought that

When you sent me that email (which I still haven't read)

The one about how you're so sorry about me losing my bestie

From the subject line, I'm guessing that's what it was about

I felt that you could never know the pain I was going through

But dear brother, now you do

And it hurts so bad because I know how you feel

I went through the same thing 11 months and 2 days ago

Most people won't get it

They'll end up saying the wrong thing

Most people would just be like, "I'm sorry for your loss"

And I know how annoying it is to hear that on and on

Especially when you are trying to forget something so haunting

Brother, from having to go through this, I can tell you:

1. You'll never forget him

2. The pain might never fully go away

3. Let out the tears if you must. It's okay to cry

4. Think of the moments you had. Cherish them.

5. Pray for yourself and his family

6. Don't let this destroy you. Find a way to let it build you up

7. You're going to be okay.

The last one might seem impossible. It's not.

I still cry, but I'm okay.

Dear, brother, I wish you didn't have to go through this too

But know this

I'm here for you.

Talk to me when you're aching

Talk to me when you're breaking

I understand how much it hurts

You're older than I was when I lost my bestie

But pain ain't got no age limit

I love you and I'm here for you.

We'll make it through this.

We're going to be okay.
