Griffin's POV
I managed to stay in good graces with my other teachers, and now the time had arrived for lunch.
Usually April and I sit together, at the table closest to the door so we could slip out so she could smoke a cigarette.
I know I know, I shouldn't condone that. But she just started when she started dating some senior. That's when we started arguing. But that's all over now. All I have to figure out now is where to sit. I scan my surroundings. Literally I had no interest with sitting with any of these people.
Not like I'm better than them, I just don't fit in with them. And now it appears I'll have to sit alone. Which I will hate, its not like I enjoy being alone. I just have trouble finding people who I fit in with. So being all alone isn't very pleasurable for me.So on my slow journey to the empty tables on the outskirts of the cafeteria I notice the new guy that was in my period first class. Jackson I think it is. He seemed like a okay guy. Didn't speak at all during class, but better than nothing.
I plop down across from him and he's reading some book so I decide to start a conversation.
"Watcha reading?" I asked"The great Gatsby" he answered quietly.
I literally had no idea what that was, but he doesn't have to know that. I'll just play it cool."Ah yeah, that's my favorite. Gotta love the classics" that was total bullshit and I knew it, I'm pretty sure he did too.
"Then who is it by?" He asked. Damnit he knew, and he was calling me out on it.
"R.L Stein?" I literally couldn't think of any other author.
"F. Scott Fitzgerald" he corrected me with a smile.
Oh I've heard this joke before, alright maybe I'm not a total idiot. I can still turn this around"What?"
"F. Scott Fitzgerald" he said again
"Well what did Scott Fitzgerald do to you?" I said grinning
He seemed to enjoy it too, he laughed too. Momentarily.
He quickly composed himself and returned to his book. His face still red from laughing."I'm Griffin" I break the silence and extend my arm for a handshake.
"Jackson" He said quietly and not shaking my hand.
We sit in an awkward silence for a few more minutes until the Bell rings.
Jackson mutters something and I Pat his shoulder. And we part ways.I sleep the next few classes until the final Bell rings and I'm ready to go home.
