Jackson's POV
After successfully flying under the radar for the first half of my day, the moment I've been dreading has arrived.
Standing like an idiot with my lunch tray looking out to the cafeteria, surveying the area.
First are the jocks. Literally ew, ten guys crowded around a four seat table yelling obscenities.
The mathletes. Not nerds, there's a difference. These acne faced awkward kids proudly wore their mathlete letterman jackets from 2013 presumably every single day.
Then theater kids. Singing and laughing, putting on a show really. I envied them all. They fit in, they all belong in their social circles. I on the other hand was still standing like a doofus looking around the cafeteria.
I settle on an empty table, open my soda and open my book.
After maybe fifteen minutes my silent reading is interrupted.
"Hey, uh watcha reading there" I look up to find the guy from my chemistry class sitting across from me."The great Gatsby" I said quietly, half hoping he'd just walk away.
"That's uh my favorite, gotta love the classics" that was total bullshit."Oh yeah who's it by then?" I said coving the book.
"Uhm. R. L Stein?" He responded
"F. Scott Fitzgerald" I blurted"What?"
"F. Scott Fitzgerald" I repeated defensively.
"Well what did Scott Fitzgerald do to you?" He ask with a wicked grin on his face.
I started chuckling, and quickly I realize I'm talking to someone, and tense up"I'm Griffin" he said outstretching his hand for a shake.
"Jackson" I mumbled. Leaving his hand hanging halfway across the table.
But the Bell rang. Thank god. As I stood I muttered something like 'goodbye' and he patted my back as we walked in separate directions. The last two classes of the day went by without incident and I was finally ready to go home. Not really home, my mom's new house in this shitty town that I despise as much as my mom.
Who as a matter of fact is busy so I half to walk home. All the home. After a quick Google search its a 2 mile walk.
So I decide to take some to read, come down from the excitement of today.
