The rest of the school day was a blur- except for the fact that I got yet another detention, and apparently Carla and I are at good terms now which is extremely shocking. School ended and I hurried to my locker looking behind me as I unlocked it. I didn't want to run into Luke and take on his offer in driving me to school everyday. It just didn't feel right. I don't want to take advantage of his kindness... And besides, I don't even really know him that well.

I turned around and saw Austin getting to leave as well. My heart began to race. My eyes traced his tall slender figure, from his messy blonde hair to his worn out boots. He was wearing loosely fitted jeans and a sports sweatshirt. Damn, he looked good. The shorter the proximity, the better the view.

"Hey Austin." I smiled making my way to him. Finally, something good today.

Austin jumped a bit but recovered but recovered with a smile just as soon as it happened. "Hey Laila, whats up?"

"Um nothing much. Got no homework," I shrugged. At least I think I didn't

"Lucky. I got a big chemistry test tomorrow." He took his book out from his locker making a puppy dog face and I snickered at his facial expression. He shut his locker and we walked down the loud busy hallway until we came outside.

"Laila do you have a ride home?"

There was no use in lying. "Actually no I don't but its okay cause I prefer walking. Fresh air will do me good and its good cardio."

"Fresh air will do me good as well." He smiled walking forward but stopped when I didn't follow. "You coming or what?"

We walked side by side in peaceful silence. "So hows your week so far?" I asked trying to start up a conversation.

"Pretty stressful I guess. I got a bad grade on two tests so far and if I get one more D coach won't let me play next week. And lets face it, our football team pretty much sucks without me. I can't let my teammates down." He rubbed his face with his hand.

"So hows Felecite?" I asked trying to changed the subject.

He gave a dry laugh."What about her?"

"Oh well aren't you guys dating or something?" Jealousy bubbled up in my stomach and I immediately regretted asking him.

"No we're not dating."

"How come at you're house-"

"One of my friends set me up with her but truth be told, it didn't really work out. She's not my type anyway."

I almost did a happy dance and screamed with joy, relieved he wasn't with her. Instead I simply replied with oh and kept walking.

"Hey why are you asking anyway?" He turned to me smiling.

"No reason I was just curious that's all." I said nervously.

"Enough of me, how's your week going so far?"

"I got a detention...again." I bit my lip and turned away my face burning.

He stopped looked taken back. "No way! Good girl, straight A student Laila Michelson got detention two times in a row!" He laughed poking at my stomach.

"Well believe it." I said turning around to face him feeling suddenly confident.

"What did you do that was oh so terrible?" He said mockingly trying to contain his laughter.

I huffed and looked at him steadying my voice. "I was late to class...twice. Even though the second time I was kicked out!"

"Well when you become a bad-ass rebel and you cut all your hair and you get tattoos and cause destruction and the detention room feels like home don't forget us little people."

I gasped and punched him in the arm.  He grinned putting his around me and walked in silence.

About five minutes later we pulled up to my house. I sighed, I knew this wasn't going to last forever.

"Thank you for riding the Austin Express. I hope you had a pleasant ride."

A smile spread across my face. "Yeah I did actually. It beats walking alone."

"Yeah maybe we should do this more often. I need a good walk once in a while."

I was about to speak but I shut my mouth staring up at him. He stared back too.We were somehow closer to each other now. I was lost in his blue eyes. It felt like I was drowning in them and all I could see was blue. Our stares were intense and piercing each other. It felt like forever and I decided this was a perfect time to make my move, it just felt right. But fate was just not on my side. As I was contemplating whether or not I should just lay one on him, he broke out into a grin and slowly backed away.

"Well I've got a date with chemistry." He said rolling his eyes.

I blew out a frustrated breath.  I just wanted to wring my neck with my own damn hands. Gosh I was so close to kissing him.

"Well you better get going then.Good luck Charlie!" I waved as he was walking down the driveway.

"Thanks Laila. I'll see you tomorrow."

I went inside and tossed the keys on the table and then slumped on the couch. A warm fuzzy feeling spread throughout my body and I smiled slightly as I channel surfed. I sighed and leaned my head back on the couch. So close.
