March 17th,

The past few weeks had been hard for Anabella.  She was constantly sad and no matter how hard I tried, it was almost impossible to cheer her up even the slightest bit.  She didn’t want to go anywhere anymore.  I’d ask her if she wanted to hang out or go see a movie or something and she would say no.  All she wanted to do anymore was stay home.

I felt bad that there was nothing I could do to help.  I honestly wanted to but there was absolutely nothing I could do that would make anything any better.  It hurt me to see her this sad.  I could feel the pain, disappointment, and abandonment that she felt all from just simply looking at her.  Someone that beautiful doesn’t deserve to be hurt that badly.  In fact, no one deserves to be hurt that badly.

Today started out as a usual Friday.  I waited at my locker for Anabella like always with a cup of hot chocolate in my hands.  I always brought her hot chocolate on Fridays.

Today when I saw her I could tell something was different in her.  She was smiling again, glowing actually.  Her cheeks were rosy pink again and her eyes had regained their happy sparkle.  She came over, kissed me, and I handed her the cup.  She took it and took a sip.  She slowly removed the cup from her berry colored lips and smiled wither her eyes closed.  She liked the hot chocolate.  “You’re in a good mood today aren’t you?”  I asked her.  She shook her head and handed me the cup.  She signed, ‘My year was just made.’

“Why?”  I questioned.

‘I was invited to a party, like a real high school party!’

“By who?”

‘One of the guys on the football team, he said I could bring someone so guess who gets to come too?’

“I’m guessing me.  Are you sure you want to go though?”

‘Yah, why not?’

“Well, these high school parties, they usually involve things like drinking and drugs, or so I’ve heard.  Are you sure you’re okay with that?”

‘Rhyder, it’s the first time in my entire school career that anyone, besides you, has invited me to anything.  I’m practically jumping at the chance right now to be a normal high schooler, to finally fit in!’  I could see the excitement in her face.  This was huge for her.  I just didn’t want her to get hurt again and be sad.  I gave in and agreed to go with her.

We arrived to a medium sized house in the middle of nowhere.  It was pitch black dark outside but the entire house was light up.  I grabbed onto Anabella’s hand afraid to lose her in the mob of people rushing inside the house.  The music was loud and the space was cramped.  Anabella held my hand tightly and made her way through the crowd into the kitchen where the football player who invited her was.  He nodded his head up once at her and then scowled at me.  She waved hello to him.  “Sup,” he said to us.

“Oh um, I’m Rhyder.”  I said to him.

“I know.  You’re that new kid who’s all like nerdy and shit.”

“I moved here over a year ago and nerdy?”

“Yah you’re that guy who’s like obsessed with writing and shit.”  Did all of his sentences end with and shit?

“I like writing. I wouldn’t say I’m obsessed with it though.”

“Whatever,” he said picking up a cup from the counter and taking a sip from it.  “Ana there’s drinks out in the garage if you want one.”  He said motioning his head towards the other room.  She nodded and left the room.  “Beer?”  He said offering his cup to me.

“No thanks, I don’t drink.” I pushed the cup away.  “Loser,” he mumbled.”

“Her name’s Anabella not Ana, by the way.”

“Whatever she’s hot so it doesn’t matter.”

“Yes it does matter.”

“Why the hell does it matter so much to you?”

“Because it bothers her when people call her Ana or Bella,” I said starting to get annoyed with him.

“So, your point is?”

“She doesn’t like it, so don’t call her that.”

“Fine dude, wow you need to calm down there.”

“Thank you.” I said in a sarcastic tone.

“So,” he continued talking, “When’s she going to be back?  I just wanna go make out with her and leave, I got a game in the morning.”

“Excuse me?”

“Oh you don’t mind that I’m going to steal your friend for a few minutes right?  She’s got small boobs, it’ll be fast."

“Anabella isn’t my friends, she’s my girlfriend.”

“But dude, you’re gay.”

“No I’m not.”

“Oh, this just got really awkward then.”

“Why in the world would you think I’m gay?”

“Because everyone in the school does, you’re so emotional and touchy.  That’s why people don’t want to talk to you.  That and you’re weird.”

“But, Anabella and I have been dating for like sixteen months.”

“Aw how cute you count,” he teased.  I walked away angrily.  I found Anabella in the living room and pulled her into the hall.  “We have to go.”  I said to her.

‘Why?’  She signed.

“The only reason that guy invited you here was to make out with you…and apparently everyone thinks I’m gay.”

‘Eventful night?’

“Now’s not really the time for jokes.  Let’s just go.”

We left and didn’t go back.  I walked Anabella back to her house.  It was empty.  “Where’s your dad?”  I asked her.

‘He’s either at work or out drinking which, either way, means he won’t be back until tomorrow morning.’  She looked sort of scared.

“Do you want me to stay with you?  My mom got called in and won’t be back until sometime tomorrow so, she won’t even notice I’m gone.”  She nodded her head yes.  I walked her up to her bedroom and crawled into bed with her.  We laid there for about an hour before Anabella fell asleep.  Then I drifted off too.
