"Alright well I'm going to bed." I said after I put away the wet towel.
"Ok, remember we're going to the town's meeting tomorrow!" called my aunt after me.
"Yes I know Aunt Lucia."
"I want you ready by eight, and wear your yellow dress."
"Do I have to use a dress?" I whined
"Yes. Now go to bed or you'll never wake up on time." she shooed me
"Yes Aunt Lucia" I sigh before going to my room and closing the door behind me.
I changed into my tennis shoes, and grabbed a jacket before opening one of the windows. My heart was beating so hard i could feel it.
I can do this.
I have to do this.
If Anya and Jane are at the party then I will go get them and bring them home.
Whispering a few choice curse words I climbed out my window and out into the fresh air. It's always colder at night. Making sure no one was around I maneuvered my way in the shadows of the houses.
When I was sure that the shadows concealed me perfectly I bring out the paper that Anya gave me that had the address of the party. The party was in an abandoned farm area. California is the main agricultural producer, we produce over 80% of the food that the USA eats. Before the cure and our borders shut California was less agricultural because it produced movies or something of the sort. Those movies were corrupted filled with love and ideas surrounding the disease. The government tried to stop Hollywood, but didn't succeed until the bombings. Hollywood is part of the Wilds now.
As I near the farm an exciting sound fills my ears. I find myself running to where the music is coming from. I stopped in my tracks when I saw a large mob dancing and singing around a stage that looks as if it were made of old boxes. An ocean of people moved to the loud music. I felt nauseous but I forced myself to move closer. I came for Jane and Anya. I can't let the make the wrong choices. I can't let them do what my parents did.
I push past the people desperately searching for my friends. I feel as if there is no room, and jump every time someone accidentally touches me.
"Andy? Andy!" I turn around when I hear my name
It's Anya and Jane, with 3 others. A girl with shoulder length blonde hair and two boys with light brown hair...possibly brothers. I don't know any of them.
Slowly I made my way to the group.
"Andy I'm so glad you made it!" beamed Anya
"Yeah, I um I came to-" I tried to explain but someone bumped into me.
I froze, slightly jumping to the side
"Sorry!" said a guy with brown hair and eyes. He smiled and left just as he came.
"You ok Andy?" asked Anya
"Huh? Oh yeah-"
"Are you going to introduce us then Anya or should we?" asked one of the boys with a mischievous smile
Anya's cheeks went a light shade of pink "Oh yeah. Andy, this is Jason ans James, they're twins." she motioned to the two boys "And this is Mary." she pointed ant the blonde girl.
I waved awkwardly "Um yeah...hi. Hey, Jane, Anya can I talk to you err alone for a sec?"
Anya and Jane shot each other a confused look before walking over with me to a more secluded area
"Whats wrong?" asked Jane
"Listen you guys...I came here to pick you guys up. You had your fun, you broke some rules, now lets go before anything bad happens."
"You've got to be kidding" sighed Anya
"No I'm not kidding!" I exclaimed
"You fucking shit. If you didn't want to come then you shouldn't have come!" snarled Jane
"I came for you guys!"
"We're big girls! We can take care of our selves!" spat Jane
"I just want you to be safe!"
"Safe from what?! Living? Seriously Andy there is so much about life that you would never understand."
"Guys, come on, it's a party." Anya pleaded
"You know what Jane? You're right. Fuck you and your mistakes. Fuck me for trying to be a good friend. Enjoy your stupid party!"
"Andy!" Anya protested
"Goodbye." I snapped before storming off.
My mind was blank, my body filled with hot anger.
A few feet away from the party I dropped on the floor feeling tired and angry.
I grabbed a handful of grass and began to rip it apart. Warm tears rolled down my cheeks. I said some horrible things to them...but I can't take them back. I can't help them. I can't be friends with them...not anymore.
"Knock knock, may I come in?"
"Yeah."
Oliver came inside closing the door behind him.
"Hey, your aunt wanted me to tell you she went to buy some groceries."
"ok"
"You alright?" he asked sitting down next to me on my bed.
"Yeah I'm fine. Are we going to the pool today?"
"Yes. Do you have your things ready?"
"Yeah."
"Are Anya and Jane going to meet us there?"
"No. They aren't coming." I said standing up and grabbing my bag.
Oliver stood up and opened the door for me.
"Why aren't they coming?"
"They just aren't."
"Alright...are the coming tomorrow?"
"No." I said making my way down stairs.
"Andy is everything ok?" he asked skipping the last step
"Everything is fine. Can we go now?"
"Of course." he motioned for me to go first so sped out the door and onto my bike.
"Hey, I know I told you that you're getting better but maybe we shouldn't try the bicycle yet-"
"I'm fine, I can do it."
"Andy you looked stressed it might not be the best idea-"
"Fine. Whatever."
I threw my bike to the side and began my way to the university.
Oliver grabbed my arm and pushed me behind a bush.
"All right spill it. What happened."
I pulled my arm free from his grasp "What the hell?!"
"Andy what happened?"
"Nothing." I whined
"When people say nothing it means something."
"I don't want to talk about it."
"Tough brake kid, cause we aren't going anywhere until you tell me whats wrong." he said taking a step closer
"It's none of your business." I snapped
"Yes it is. I am in charge of making sure you are as healthy as can be. That includes emotional."
I froze when he said 'emotional'
"I don't have deliria-"
"I know. I didn't mean that. Andy, you can trust me."
"I..." I swallowed hard
"Andy." his voice was soft and reassuring. I looked up into his clear eyes and suddenly I felt weak.
"I had a fight with Jane and Anya."
"Why?"
"They went to a party...an illegal party. I...asked them to leave the party but they wouldn't" Tears began to roll down my cheeks.
"Andy..."
"I wanted them to be safe I wanted them to go home...you should have seen the place, it was filled with boys and girls-all close together a-and conversing like it was ok! Like it was normal! Li-like it was normal for uncured boys and girls to be near each other! Like i-it was perfectly safe! O-or worse, like they didn't care."
"Andy...everyone there...they're just looking for a good time...its natural for uncured teens to want to rebel...Jane and Anya are just trying to find themselves..."
Oliver's POV
"Andy...everyone there...they're just looking for a good time...its natural for uncured teens to want to rebel...Jane and Anya are just trying to find themselves..." I sighed not knowing how to explain it to her.
Tears kept slipping out of her, she seemed so broken...it tugged at my heart. Andy cared about her friends, but everything she knew and believed in went against what her friends had done. If she reacted like this because of Jane and Andy going to a party...how would she react when she found out who I really was? She would hate me.
"I...I can't... I feel...like they betrayed me."
"Andy-" I took a step closer to her.
She stepped back "I... I dont want to...go to the-the pool."
Andy was shaking, I could tell it was hard for her to breath.
"Ok, we can cancel today if you want."
She nodded and whipped away the tears with her sleeve before running back into the house.
I stood there silently for a few minutes staring at where she had been.
"I'm so sorry." I whispered, before turning on my heel and leaving.
