I walked down the hall of my house. Click, click, click, click go my heels at my steps. My heart going at the same steady beat, thump, thump, thump, thump. I smiled to myself knowing my heart would forevermore be steady. Always calm, always relaxed, always safe. Suddenly I heard laughing from one of the rooms down the far end of the hall. I frowned and headed to the door, ready to silence the provider. The door creaked loudly as I opened it, and I made a mental note to have someone fix it. I opened the door all the way, and was momentarily blinded by the bright white light that filled the room. I squinted as my eyes slowly adjusted. In the middle of the room I could make out three figures, moving around. The light faded allowing me to see better. The three figures were a man, a woman and a child. The man had chocolate brown hair, and leaf green eyes. The woman's hair was a light, almost white shade of blonde, but her eyes were a dark blue. They were both laughing and dancing with a small girl. She had her fathers hair and eyes, but her mother's smile. They all danced to nonexistent music. Th girl pulled at her parent's sleeves and pointed at me. I sucked in a breath, which made me realize that I hadn't been breathing since opening the door. The couple stopped dancing, picked the girl into their arms, and turned to me. The smiles still playing on their faces, never faulting. They waved at me, beckoning for me to go nearer to them. Slowly I took a step closer to them. I wasn't sure why and I knew I shouldn't...but I couldn't stop myself. It was as if they were pulling me to them with an invisible rope. Something inside me wanted-needed to be with them. Interrupting my thoughts, the room began to shake violently. I could hear my name echoing off the walls "Andy"
"Andy"
"Andy"
"Andy!"
"ANDY"
I opened my eyes and sat up trying to breath.
It had been a dream. Just a dream.
Natalie stared at me intently at the edge of my bed.
"Are you alright?" she asked so quietly I almost didn't hear
I didn't trust myself to to speak. I knew that if I talked I would reveal something of my dream. So I nodded and gave her a small smile.
"Anya and Jane are down stairs waiting for you. I'll go tell them your awake."
I nodded again and she left my room without another word. I like Natalie because of this-she knew I had nightmares, but she didn't ask or question. She was there when she knew she was needed, and she knew when she wasn't.
I slipped on a bra, a large green T-shirt, a pair of light blue jeans, and my black converse. I knew my aunt wouldn't be to happy with what I was wearing-she preferred for me to use a dress, but I didn't fee like dressing up today. I washed my face, and ran down the stairs while pulling my hair into a small bun. My hair is short so whatever I put it in is small, and looks strange. But like I said-I don't care how I look today. Every time I close my eyes the family is waving at me, smiling brightly. The worse part is that I know that family. Once, a long time ago...that was me with my parents. A lifetime ago.
I tried to shake my past out of my mind as I landed on the last step and met my friends.
Anya like always looks beautiful. She is tall with blonde hair that's naturally straight, shes thin but a healthy thin, and almost anything she puts on looks good. Her skin is pale although she has many times tried to tan, her eyes are a sweet honey color and she has a few soft freckles on her nose. I always tease her about how tall she is, by asking her to get everything out of my reach. Today she's wearing a floral high-waist skirt with a black blouse, witch contemplates her hourglass figure.
Jane is taller than I am, but a few inches shorter than Anya. She has piercing red hair and stormy grey eyes, she has a nice body too-although she hates dresses more than I do and wont be without a sweater unless she's attending an important event. Her parents don't like the fact that she always hides in her over sized sweaters-but they know that once she is cured she will loose interest in them-so they allow her to enjoy it while it lasts (just like our friendship). Next to them I look like a mess. They always look beautiful-even without trying. I've spent hours in front of a mirror trying to make myself look presentable-but I always still feel like shit compared to them. I don't resent them, looks don't matter much when you get paired up with. That's the good part of a pair being chosen for you; there is always someone, you will not end up alone.
"Ready to go?" asks Anya
"Yeah, I thought I was meeting you guys at the park though."
Jane shrugged "We got tired of waiting for you."
"Sorry, the bed was so warm." I said grabbing a muffin and taking a bite
"Any dreams?" asked Jane curiously
"Nope. No dream, I can't remember sleeping so well." I lied taking another piece off my muffin
They both stared at me. They could tell that I was lying-they always could.
I tapped my ear 3 times. It was our sign for 'tell you later'. And then twirled my hair twice, which meant 'play along'
"Well that's great Andy!" smiled Anya
"We should get going" said Jane
"Natalie, if your mom asks please tell her that I'm at the park ok? I'll be back at 6."
"Ok have fun" waved Natalie before running back up stairs.

"Where should we go his time?" asked Anya as we mounted our bikes
"Lets go along side the fence and turn back around when we hit California University?"
Remember how I said we don't like exercise? Well...i's not completely true. We love ridding our bikes. We don't go insanely fast or anything like that-we just ride around the city, laughing and avoiding passing people. I loved peddling down the roads, the world a blur, my hair flying in the air. It's one of the times I feel free, as if I could ride so far away from my worries that they could never catch up again. But they do in the end.
I closed my eyes and smiled. I could fly. I could fly away-far away!
What happened next went too fast. My bike bumped into something, sending my body flying forward. I was in the air. Then my body hit the hard concrete ground.
My head felt like it had been scrambled, my arm hurt and could feel a sticky liquid on my leg. The world felt dizzy, I could make out colorful shadows moving around me and strange sounds vibrating everywhere. I tried to blink but my eyes lids were heavy. Slowly everything went black.

I opened my eyes. There was an insanely bright light over me. Oh god am I dead? No-If I died without being cured I'd go to hell. So where am I? My vision cleared, except for a few black and white dots that would appear for a few seconds. My body ached but I managed to sit up. I was in some type of clinical room-maybe a hospital? I tried to stand-but a strong shot of pain erupted from my entire leg, making even my jaw hurt. I allowed a small cry of pain escape my lips, and took a few seconds to let the pain die down. What is going on? I closed my eyes and images of the accident ran through my mind. My leg had been injured. But I couldn't remember where I was-or what exactly happened. My head felt heavy but I managed to get off the bed and stand on my let foot. I desperately reached for things around me, pulling at them to balance myself. I had finally reached the door, when suddenly it was opened. I backed up slightly, surprised.
"Hello, I see you're up." said the person standing at the door. It was a guy. His eyes were a piercing blue, his black hair was messy, and he had the most amazing smile I had ever seen. My breath was caught in my throat. I couldn't breath. I couldn't talk. I could only stares at him-and his perfection.
He chuckled lightly before saying "I've been waiting for you."
