Things have been passing by in a blur. The first few days went by slowly, after all Jane and Anya have been my only friends, my entire life. Oliver has been coming over less and less, mainly because I'm getting better. Anya and Jane don't talk to me and I don't talk to them. Its like we were friends 100 years ago-a time well forgotten. Only memories now...like my parents...
"Is Oliver coming today?" asked Natalie, as I handed her the clean dishes and she put them away.
"No, he's coming tomorrow-why?"
"Oh..."
"What?"
"Does that mean you're coming to the party?"
"What party?" I asked
"The one-for dad's job?"
"I didn't know about a party..." I trialed off
"For dad's new job? You know getting a higher position-in Boston?"
"Yeah I know about the job, I just didn't know about the party."
"Girls have you put away everything?" asked my Aunt as she stepped into the kitchen
"Yes Aunt Lucia, Um, may I have a word with you?"
"Of course. Natalie, go wash up." She shooed Natalie away before taking out the lettuce, a knife and a plate.
"Why didn't you tell me about the party tonight?"
"The party?" she asked innocently before beginning to cut the lettuce
"The party at Uncle Edwards job?"
"I didn't think you would be able to go."
"What do you mean?" I huffed
"Well aren't you seeing Oliver today?"
"No, thats tomorrow!"
"Don't raise your voice. I thought it was today."
"You should have asked me then."
"Calm down will you? It's too late now, we told them it would just be the 4 of us."
"So what am I suppose to do?"
"Can't you stay over at Anya's?"
"I...she could be busy."
"Just call her. I don't want you alone all day." she said pushing me to the side to point at the phone
"Fine" I grumbled before picking the phone up and dialing Anya's house
Ring
Please don't pick up
Ring
Please
Ring
Please
Ring
"Hello, Marope residence. This is Lana Marope, who is this?"
"Um, hi Mrs. Marope, it's me Andy. "
"Oh hello Andy. Would you like to speak with Anya?"
"Uh, yes please."
"Alright, one minute."
"Thanks."
I stood awkwardly for a few minutes holding the phone hoping that I could simply stay at home alone today.
"Hey." came Anya's voice
"Hi how are you?" I said trying to act cheerful.
My aunt had no idea that Anya and I weren't friends anymore, and that's how I was going to keep it. If I kept that a secret-keeping the party a secret would be easier too.
Anya must have gotten what I was doing, because her voice lit up "Oh, I'm cool, the usual. And you? Whats up over there?"
"Um well my aunt, uncle and cousins are going to be out and my aunt doesn't want me to be home alone...do you think I can come over?"
"Oh...well we are going to a dinner party...but you can come along if you want."
"You sure? I don't want to be much of a bother."
"No it's fine. Come over and I'll help you get ready."
"Alright. Thanks Anya, I'll be there in ten."
"Right, bye."
"Bye." I said before ending the call.
"What did she say?" asked my aunt
"She said I can spend the day with them."
"Great. You should head off then, I still have to get ready." she beamed
I silenced my need to curse her out and walked out of the kitchen to get some nice clothes and make up. I stuffed everything into my green gym bag. I stormed out of the house, hastily making my way to Anya's. I lived only a few block away from her house since my family was 'upper middle class' and Anya was 'upper class'. Soon enough I could see her house, and feel myself panic. How would we react when we would see each other? I wasn't angry at her anymore...or sad. I feel so confused about how to feel towards Jane and Anya.
I took s deep breath and stepped into her house, quickly walked up the stairs and into Anya's room
There were many dresses and shoes laying around her room.
"Anya?"
"In the bathroom!" called Anya from the dorr next to her large closet
"Alright, I'm going to change here." I warned
"Go for it. When you're done can you come in here and help me with my hair?"
"Yeah sure."
I smiled to myself as I slipped into my dress. At least it was going well...we were acting as if nothing had happened.
I moved into the bathroom was already dressed up, and her make up was done.
"You look amazing. Whatcha need me to do?" I asked
"Thanks. Can you just put it up for me?"
"Sure." I said before working at her hair to make something that looked nice. "Done"
Jane touched her hair with the tip of her fingers and smiled contently before turning to me.
"Want some help with your make up?"
"Yes please."
Anya started putting make up on me as I tried to make conversation
"Soooo where we going?"
"The mayor's dinner party."
"He's having a dinner party? Why?"
"Well it's actually his daughter's engagement party."
"Who's the groom?"
"No idea. I heard mom and dad talking about him. Apparently he's like this medical genius."
"Huh."
"Yep."
"I would've thought she'd marry a politician."
"Well, she is the youngest of 4 so it doesn't really matter as long as she marries someone that gives off a good image."
"Yeah I guess youre right."
"Of course I'm right" laughed Anya
I smiled "Very funny."
"I'm glad we agree. Now put on your shoes, I finished your make up."
"Do I look ok?" I asked making an exaggerated duck face
Anya laughed as she pretended to examining "Oh you look fabulous."
"Why thank you dear madam."
"You are welcome m'lady." she said, turning around
I took her arm "Wait.."
"What?" he asked her face turning serious
"I...I am sorry."
"...I am too. Now hurry up child, or we'll be late." she snapped jokingly
"It's only the mayor" I said sarcastically. I was glad we had resolved our conflict. Now I would have to talk with Jane. But at least Anya and I were friends again.
