*Celina's POV*
I almost died today. You are probably wondering why I'm telling you this. That's because it's true, I almost died today in highschool. What could possibly go wrong in highschool that might be a life and death situation am I right? That's what I thought, before today's events happened. Let me start from the beginning.
September 21, Monday afternoon, I was walking down the hallways of Soviet Array High School to get to my next class. Soviet Array High School, is filled with lush green wildlife and the scent of fresh, cut grass. Made with bricks and shiny, glass windows, this highschool shows off its new qualities. Over the summer break there was a make-over for the entire exterior and interior designs of the school. Music from the band room bounced off of the walls and cheerleaders strut gracefully through the floors with their pink and blue pom poms in their hands and wave to any boys that look cute. You could also hear the sweet voices of acapella singers filling the hallways of the first floor. Although, this highschool is mostly filled of jocks who shout loud chants throughout the hallways after early practice. Every morning it's loud in here. I've only been here a few weeks but it seems like I've been here for months. Everything is a routine now. However, there are three, wide floors which result in me having trouble finding my next classroom.
It has been only a few weeks and it already feels like I've been here forever. I already know most of what goes on around here. I just need to know the navigating part and I'm all set.
I fumbled with my schedule in one hand while trying to maintain holding my large binders in the other. My best friend, Lana, was walking right next to me and was trying to help me keep my books from scattering onto the floor. We were freshman this year. We had the same classes in the afternoons so we often helped each other out.
"Getting to just one classroom is hard enough. How do the others do it?" I exclaimed while browsing through my schedule for the room number.
"Well, others may have had practice. Plus, freshmen like us have trouble navigating around too you know. So don't stress it out too much Celina. We'll get used to it in no time!" Lana advised cheerfully as we went up the stairs and turned a corner.
"Yeah, you're right. I can see that making sense. I just need to get used to the routine. So, anyways, while we have the time, how was your weekend?" I asked as we walked alongside the other high schoolers down the hallway.
"My week's been pretty great! I went to Florida for a bit to see a new environment. It was pretty cool. We visited the beaches! How about you?" Lana replied with enthusiasm and glanced at me with a bright smile while waiting for me to answer.
"Well, my weekend was basically boring. I just stayed in the house all day and watched some TV and read books," I answered with a shrug of my shoulders.
The thing with me and Lana, is that we are totally different. Lana is adventurous and likes to go to all sorts of places. She likes to get out of her house and do something to release her boredom, but me? I usually stay in the house all the time watching TV, listen to music, and read books. I'm more of a relaxing gal. Two totally different girls who are as close as peas in a pod, ironic ain't it?
"Ok, so let's see, I've heard that highschool has a lot of cuties. So.....I guess I'm asking, do u have anybody that your eyes have laid on? Hmm? What are your secrets of your love life?" Lana taunted me while staring straight at me as if she were looking for any hint of me flustering from her comments. I kept my face blank.
"I have no one in mind. Boys are the least of my problems. Plus, most boys look for beauty. What's the point of having a hottie next to you when all he cares about is your pretty face? I have no secrets against you," I retorted back and gave a sly smile.
That's not all true though. Especially the last part. Lana doesn't know about what I've been seeing and hearing ever since what happened in my past. It haunts me every night and threatens to consume me every day. It plays in my head over and over. I shudder just to think about it.
"So, what did u get on the math test? I bet you aced it!" Lana shouted out over the other people's loud conversations. Her voice ripped me out of my thoughts. I almost dropped my books as I jumped from her unexpectedly loud voice.
"O-Oh I didn't ace it. I got a 95." I responded with a forced smile as if it were nothing that great.
"What??!! You did better than me! I can't believe you got a 95! I, on the other hand, got an 87! I hate you!" Lana exclaimed sarcastically and gave me a gentle push to show how 'upset' she was.
"It's really nothing, I wasn't that good. Plus you're overreacting. You got a 100 on the science test last week while I got a 92!" I argued back and we laughed as we walked up the stairs and down a hallway. We were now on the second floor. "Oh we're here! Room 106!" I yelled after we walked a bit more and we quickly rushed to the doorway.
The bell rang as soon as our feet stepped through the big, wooden door. We made it. I threw myself into my seat and smashed my binders and books onto my desk. I saw that Lana had gotten to her seat as well. I heaved a quiet sigh, got my pencil and notebook out, and sat quietly as the teacher organized her books on her desk.
Life was all in all pretty great in Soviet Array High School. Books, new teachings, new electives, and so much more. A bit exhausting but, a fun and new experience. What could possibly go wrong? I realize the answer to my question 15 minutes later.
