(Beau's P. O. V.)
This was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. Say goodbye to one of the most important figures in my life.
They say goodbyes are bittersweet, but this isn't anywhere near sweet. It's just bitter. Bitter, sad, and sour. It's bittersour!
As we drove away from the cemetery, I could hear Jai's sniffling from the backseat. I was sitting in the passengers seat, keeping an eye on my mother as she drove because I wasn't sure how her mental state was. Jai's was definitely out of line. Could you really blame him though?
I looked in the review mirror for a second, and I saw Luke trying his best to comfort Jai even though he was hurting as well.
Eventually, Luke succeeded. Jai's crying ceased, but there was something about the look in his eyes that made me suspicious. I wonder what he was thinking?
He leaned on Luke's shoulder, not saying another word or shedding a single tear. Simply resting. Like the day's events had exhausted him, and he had excepted the fact that Uncle Theo would not return. It was a sad sight to see actually.
"Boys, I have a night shift tonight so I'll be leaving the house around 7 later. Dinner will be in the fridge." My mother said as she pulled into our house's driveway.
"You're working tonight? I thought you had a week off?" Luke questioned.
"I did. I um...I asked if they were busy and needed any help tonight. They do so, I'm just gonna go and give them a hand." Our mum responded, giving Luke a small smile.
Though, we all knew that she was bluffing. Her job is rarely ever busy! Working tonight would just be a distraction from the loss of her brother. I mean, perhaps she needed this.
I just hope is doesn't become a habit.
We all piled out of the car, going in different directions once we entered the house. Mum went into the kitchen, Luke to his own room, and Jai quickly to the bathroom. I on the other hand, I didn't know where to go or what to do. So, I just stood at the door and waited for someone to call my name or something. Usually Uncle Theo asks me to play scrabble at this hour, or he shows me his latest antique collection.
Now that he's gone, I guess I'm just waiting for the hours to pass.
Once my legs grew tired after an hour or so, I decided to head up to my room. I passed the bathroom, and I heard drawers being roughly closed and noises rather struggle-some coming from inside. The last person I saw go in the bathroom was Jai, and has he really not come out yet?
I stopped in my tracks, and then I knocked on the door.
"Jai? Is everything okay in there?" I asked.
I heard a small gasp, shuffling come from inside, and then the door flew open with a startled Jai on the other side.
"You alright?" I asked again.
"I'm fine. Why wouldn't I be?" He said, avoiding eye contact with me. I shrugged and then said,
"Just making sure."
"I'm fine." He nodded for assurance.
I nodded in return, and then I made my way to my room.I didn't take notice in the things he had in his hands.
A couple hours later I was resting in my bedroom. Pondering with my thoughts and just....grieving I guess. I didn't realize that my mother had left for work already, and I didn't bother checking on my brothers. Call me selfish if you want, but I admit at the moment I was really sad and didn't feel like doing anything.
It was when Luke barged into my room with wide eyes did I snap out of my depressed trance.
"What's wrong?" I asked as I sat up in my bed.
"Have you seen Jai anywhere?" He worriedly questioned.
"Last time I saw him he was in the bathroom." I shrugged.
"Well he's not there!" Luke snapped.
"Okay! Jeez calm down. He's probably just crying in some corner. He'll show up eventually." I told him.
"No, something doesn't feel right Beau." He ran a hand frustratedly through his hair.
"Relax! I'm telling you, he's fine. He said so himself." I said to him.
"And you believe him? When someone says they're fine, they're usually lying. Especially when it comes to Jai. Fine in Jai's book means: falling apart, insecure, needing help, and everything's wrong. F. I. N. E. It's an acronym I found out about." Luke told me, fear more evident in his eyes now more than ever.
"You're overreacting." I stated with an eye roll.
"No I'm not! Beau we have to-"
I cut him off and said,
"He's fine Luke."
He looked hurt, and then with a shaky voice he said,
"That's what I'm afraid of."
