Six years ago...

Calypso was sitting on the train. Her robes in her hands and Hogwarts a history in the other. She was reading through all the wonderful things she would be seeing in a few hours.

After an hour her compartment door opened to a girl with bushy hair and brown eyes. "Have you seen a toad? A boy named Neville has lost one."

Calypso shook her head and the girl was just about to close the doors when the book caught her eye. "You're reading Hogwarts a history?"

Calypso nodded and the girl immediately sat herself down in front of her. "I've read it at least seven times. My favourite part so far is when they talk about the changing ceiling."

"You mean the one that shows the weather outside in the great hall? That's my favourite part."

The girl smiled the biggest grin that showed off her slightly over grown front teeth. She extended her hand. "My name is Hermione Granger. What's yours?"

"Calypso."

"That's very lovely."

The two girls got talking about Hogwarts and then about their favourite books.

After a little while when Hermione and Calypso were snacking on some chocolate frogs from the sweet trolley she brought up a very strange subject.

"Did you know Harry Potter is on this train?"

Calypso's eyes widened. "You mean the Harry Potter? Lightning scar and all?"

Hermione nodded her head. "His friend Ron Weaslebee isn't very pleasant. He's a grub."

"Don't you mean Weasley?"

"Oh yes. You know him?"

"I've heard of his brother Charlie. He works in Romania with dragons."

And off they went. Talking and laughing the rest of the trip to Hogwarts.

Calypso and Hermione sat in the little row boats. Calypso could feel the magic around her like a warm and comforting glow. She could clearly see Hogwarts in the distance. A dark but welcoming castle surrounded by the night sky.

Once she exited the boat a large man by the name of Hagrid escorted them to the stairs outside the great hall. Calypso watched as a blonde haired boy extended his hand towards the boy Harry Potter but he rejected it. There was immediate tension in the air as the blonde haired boy walked back towards two bigger boys.

They all walked into the hall and Hermione and Calypso wouldn't stop staring at the roof and smiling with delight.

Once the hat had said its song and everyone was seated the sorting began. Hermione sat on the chair and Calypso crossed her fingers and clapped in delight when the name Gryffindor escaped the lips of the hat. Harry and Ron were put into Gryffindor and the whole table erupted into cheers. The blonde haired boy hardly had to have the hat touch his head as the name Slytherin came bursting from the hat.

Calypso was one of the last people to be called up. She sat on the chair and gripped it just hard enough for her hands to go numb. She saw Hermione sitting down smiling at her with her fingers crossed. Calypso closed her eyes and the hat started to speak.

"You are very brave, I thought Gryffindor was the one, but you're smart so Ravenclaw will be where you start, but wait Hufflepuff could use someone like you, very loyal and pretty too, but what I see underneath all of you is a Slytherin, cunning, clever and daring too. A change is needed  over at that table. A change for bad to be better. And dumb to be clever. SLYTHERIN!"
********************************
The Slytherin table erupted into cheers and the rest of the hall was silent. Had they heard the hats speech? Calypso's heart was racing a mile a minute as she saw Hermione's frown begin to form on her face. She walked down to the Slytherin table seeing all the other houses glaring at her. She felt scared and vulnerable. She sat down at the table next to the blonde haired boy and another boy beside her. The blonde haired boy extended his hand. "I'm Draco, Draco Malfoy."

Calypso shook his hand and managed a smile. The other boy introduced himself as Blaise Zabini and she shook his hand as well.

She watched the other students be sorted into houses. "Ravenclaw! Hufflepuff! Ravenclaw!" Until there was just one boy left.

McGonagall lifted her scroll and called out his name. "Leo Valdez!" And Calypso's heart stopped as a boy with curly brown hair sat on the chair and was sorted into Slytherin.
