Early morning light broke through the window, its dim shine awaking an ill at ease Callie. She rubbed her forehead, a pounding headache rattling through her head. Sighing, she somehow managed to use her weak limbs to get out of bed, stretching her stiff body as she did so. Mariana was still in a deep sleep, and Callie knew there was no chance in hell she’d wake up at this time so she chose not to be careful stepping around the dirty clothes on the floor and just quickly walk out their bedroom door.
As Callie stepped out into the hallway, she couldn’t help but peak in Jesus’s room to see Jude sleeping, his still figure making her pleased. She went to head for the bathroom, but heard a sweet sound coming from Brandon’s room. Quietly she tip toed to his door, and gently pushed open the piece of wood that separated them. Callie’s eyes were met with the bare back of Brandon as he sat against his piano, his fingers creating absolute magic. She leaned against the doorframe, hoping he wouldn’t notice her and just listened for a few minutes. As he was playing, she analyzed his back, the way his muscles moved and how he has a small freckle beneath his left shoulder blade.
Deep inside of her, Callie knew that she could possibly get kicked out of the house for standing outside his door, spying practically, but his composition brought her peace. “Light sleeper are you?” his voice startled Callie as she realized he had known she was there the whole time. Awkwardly, she crossed the floor, and sat on the edge of his bed behind him. He turned, Callie’s breath hitching as she saw his bare chest. Brandon hadn’t noticed though, his eyes watching her carefully yet oblivious to her sudden flush of color.
“I uh, just heard it from my room and it sounded really nice. I’m sorry for erm…disturbing you.”
“It’s okay. I’m glad you liked it. Considering you’re keeping boundaries though, you might want to scurry out of here before I go telling my moms’ you seduced me,” he said sarcastically, almost bitter. Callie was shocked to say the least, and just a tiny bit hurt. She understood why he was upset, but she needed to keep Jude safe and having a relationship with Brandon could risk Jude’s well being. She wasn’t going to allow that. She simply nodded at Brandon before looking at her feet and shuffling away.
Brandon frowned at the keys of his piano. He didn’t mean to be such a douche, but he was angry. He’d wanted Callie so badly, and she wouldn’t even give him a chance despite the fact that she knew his moms would never put her and her brother on the street because of a relationship. He also remembered that this had happened to Callie before and ended bitterly. He wasn’t going to hurt her though; at least he didn’t plan to. He couldn’t help but feel something in the pit of his stomach that he’d never felt. A feeling so painful, yet so pleasure-filled, that he just wanted to explode.
Callie entered the bathroom, anger boiling in her blood. She calmly undressed and turned on the shower, the sound of the jets soothing her. Once the water had heated up to a decent temperature, she hopped in and started to rinse her body. After ten minutes had gone by, she realized that the other people in the house would be waking up shortly to prepare for their day. She turned off the shower and hopped out quickly, wrapping a towel around her body as soon as her feet hit the mat outside the shower. There was a knock on the door to the bathroom, Callie in the midst of trying to get her clothes on. The knocking stopped and she heard someone breathe heavily, as if to sigh in anguish. “Callie, it’s Brandon. Look, I’m sor-“ he was cut off by Callie opening the door, her drenched hair clinging to her loose t-shirt.
Her eyes watched him carefully, waiting for him to continue but he froze, unable say what he wanted at the site of her. “I….I didn’t mean what I said…I’m not going to do that to you.” His voice went weak, and his eyes dropped to the floor, noticing a huge scar across her right foot. He bit his lip though, and returned his eyes to her.
“It’s whatever Brandon. I get it.” Her voice stayed firm, but her eyes faltered to Brandon’s still bare chest. “I have to go….get ready for school.” Brandon nodded and she quickly squeezed beside him towards her room.
