Callie sat outside by a tree, her one foot sat away from her body so it wouldn’t bother her. She held her guitar to her stomach and was lightly strumming, trying to remember some of the notes her mother had taught her when she was little. She breathed deeply; some tears escaping as she fondly remembered the happy times with her mom.
“You alright?” Brandon’s sweet voice surprised Callie, and she hurriedly wiped the tears from her eyes and nodded. “Doesn’t seem that way,” he added, sitting beside her gently.
“I know,” she choked, the tears slipping freely now. They both said nothing allowing Callie to strum a few more chords. She relaxed against the tree behind her, sighing frustrated.
“Here, I’ll help,” he comforted, readjusting her fingers at the top of the guitar. She strummed again, and grinned, hitting the right note.
“Thanks,” she whispered and Brandon nodded. He sat and listened to her play for a few more minutes. Callie kept playing the chords he showed her and eventually got a rift flowing. Brandon wanted to stay and listen more but had to leave for his piano lesson.
“My dad’s suppose to pick me up in a bit, um, I’ll see you later though alright?” he said, placing his hand on her back. She flinched at the touch but relaxed and nodded.
“Have fun,” she replied. He smiled at her before getting up and walking to the house.
Brandon was walking home from his lesson later that night; his eyes trying to adjust the darkness that now plagued the sky over head. He was surprised when his phone buzzed so he quickly picked it up. It was an instagram notification, which confused him considering he never used instagram. Clicking it open, he realized it might’ve been from a comment he left on one of Callie’s pictures. Scrolling through her pictures, he found the comment from Liam that had sent shivers through Callie’s spine. He was shocked to say the least, and went to reply, but decided to let Callie deal with it herself.
He entered the house quietly, noticing that some of his family members had headed to bed. None of them sat downstairs leaving the living room quiet and peaceful. Cautiously Brandon glanced out the window, making sure Liam wasn’t anywhere near his house. After he saw the coast was clear, he got up to get a drink of water. To his surprise, he couldn’t help but watch out the window through the kitchen. Before he knew it, it was 3 am and his eyes were drooping. He headed to the couch and lazily fell asleep.
“Honey, it’s 5 am, go up to your bed,” Stef whispered gently to Brandon, yet a little stern so he would hear and head up to his room. She could see the dark bags under his eyes and knew the construction workers would be there soon to start on the house. The sounds would wake him up and there would be no returning to sleep.
“W-wh..” he opened his eyes dazed and smiled when he saw his mom. She laughed and pulled him up from the couch.
“C’mon sleepy head, go upstairs.” She shoved him lightly towards the stairs, giggling a little as she did so. Brandon itched the back of his neck and quietly shuffled up to his room.
I don’t really like how this chapter turned out but it’s better than nothing I guess. I hope you enjoyed though.
