Chapter 10: Apologies and Goodbyes
Our free time came by in a flash and I still hadn't told him about what Mr. Brown told me, also it was a relief that he never asked about it.
"So," Here it comes, I was not totally prepared for this.
"I'm sorry I haven't told you about me moving out yet but I was gonna tell you that, I promised. "I said cutting him off of his sentence. Saying every word I said just hurt.
"I was going to ask about the prom night," He said, "And YOU'RE MOVING!?"
"I'm so sorry, I know that..."
"And what about that promise not leaving me in this town!" He said angrily and slammed his fist on the table.
I cringed at him as he shouted and murmuring some profanities at the same time, "I wasn't expecting it either. It came as a shock to me too you know."
"That doesn't cover the fact that you're leaving me alone. Was the thing you just promise just a joke." He said and started to walk out. What have I done, now he's completely mad at me and I can't even say sorry.
This would really be a long day for me.
The constant ignoring of Matt in my presence made me feel sad. I do understand him for being mad, but I don't deserve the silent treatment. It was not my idea that we move out. Why can't we just spend more time together while I'm still here, rather than him completely ignoring me.
"Hey, Matt, I just want..." Before I could even place my tray, he suddenly stood up from where he was seated and dropped his tray on the disposal place. If he wont talk to me then fine.
The day ended with me having the sour face. Neither Matt or me wanted to talk to each other, this was actually the first time we hadn't talk for a long time. Usually I, or he, would apologize for being a jerk or such, but this time he was literally ignoring me, talking with his jock friends. I actually miss him so much and I would actually miss him more when I move out of this town.
I walked silently towards the bus stop since, I was sure Matt was still trying to avoid me. I walked in to the bus and chose the seat nearest to the door so that I could exit as quick as possible. The ride home was really irritating, kids throwing bunch of stuff, shouting at each other. I can't wait to be home.
It was finally my stop so as quickly as possible I left the school bus and walked towards our house, I will miss this place. I felt like I was about to cry just thinking that I would be leaving tomorrow. I entered the house and looked at the carpeted floor and the euphoric bright walls, which now shows depression since we were about to leave. Surprisingly, Mom was early since we had to pack our things for tomorrow.
"Hey mom." I greeted her with a glum expression.
"I'm sorry Samuel, but this is for the best." Mom explained. I know that it was for the best of our family, but I just can't believe that we would be leaving soon, "Pack your bag, we'll be leaving before lunch tomorrow."
With this, I heavily dragged my body to my room and started packing my things. After this, what happens? I surely regret saying that I can't wait to leave in this town, now it came true earlier than expected and I'm leaving my best friend, and to make things work he wont talk to me. At least I want to say goodbye before I leave tomorrow, but I think that's not possible with our current situation.
After packing some stuff I lay down on my bed, though it isn't that soft, I will surely miss it, especially since we had so much memories in this bed, in this room. I didn't realize it but I fell asleep, not wanting to be disturb in my last night here in this room.
"Samuel wake up already, we're about to leave in about half an hour!" With my mother calling me loudly, I woke up as quickly as possible. I prepared myself and quickly placed all my things in the porch as a black minivan appeared in front of our house. A guy suddenly got out from the drivers seat and assisted us with our bag.
Just as I was about to climb inside the car, I heard someone calling my name.
"Sam!" It was Matt who was calling me, I will miss this idiot. He ran to me and hugged me tightly, "I'm so sorry Sam, I should't have acted like that yesterday, now I missed the chance of spending the last time with you in this crappy place."
"It's fine, it's fine I forgive you, and I'm really sorry for leaving you here. I guess we can't fulfill our promises together." I said as tears started to roll down my face.
"Don't forget about me okay!" He said trying not to tear up.
"How could I forget a jackass like you!" I said and laugh trying to change the mood.
"And don't worry, your secret is safe with me." He said and laughed like crazy. We said our goodbyes and got inside the van. I can't believe that I'm leaving here, I will surely miss this place, especially the one in it.
