Chapter 13: Moonlight Sonata - Part II
I was getting nervous as the time for us to meet was about an hour. I starting packing the usual flashlight, a salt and matches. I couldn't stop thinking of thousand possibilities that might happen to us tonight.
"I knew you were up to something." Xavier said with a grin plastered on his face.
"What? How?" I said baffled.
"Seriously, breaking in school?" Xavier said laughing his ass out, "Others would even want to break out of it. Does it have to do about this rumor about the playing piano?"
"Was it a prank?" I said not surprise to hear the news, "I tried telling them it was a prank but they wouldn't believe me."
"I don't know about that." Xavier said as if he knew something, "I mean students have been avoiding the music room on the east wing, maybe it's true."
"Please keep this a secret?" I pleaded.
"Sure! In one condition." I hate him right now. I knew there was a condition.
"Bring me with you."
"You what?"
"I wanna come, I'm so bored here and I don't want to go to that blasted party." He said with a smirk, "So I can right?"
"Sure, but please don't be weirded out." I said.
"I would never." He teased and got to his car, "Come on, it'll be much faster."
The trip back to school was a bit fast this time, considering that it was already past twelve. When we finally arrived at our 'meeting point' Meghan gave me a meaningful look.
"What?" I raised my hands in defense, "He was bored and wanted to come."
"I didn't know that you were into this kind of stuff." Meghan raise an eyebrow as she looked at Xavier, "Knowing that you're kinda, you know, POPULAR!"
"Oh come on, I'm just hanging out with my bro." Xavier smirked and put his arm over my shoulder.
And from the looks of things, I think that they might have known each other from long time ago. It also seems like they are catching up to each other.
"So when are we going in?" I asked Cameron as he was busy with his phone.
"We still can't Kristen and Al isn't here yet." He said.
"Oh Kristen can't come, something important came up." Meghan said out of nowhere, it seems like they are done with their little get together.
"And Al?" Cameron asked.
"The stupid as said he wont come." Meghan said blankly.
"So it's just the four of us then." Cameron said with disappointment.
"Seems like it." Meghan said.
Once we were inside the school, we made sure not to be careless and trip any alarm that this school may have. At night it seems to be a lot creepier, as if something would just jump out of a corner.
"Are we there yet?" Cameron muffled.
"Almost."Meghan who was clearly afraid couldn't stop shaking.
"Come on you're afraid already?" Xavier joked when he saw Meghan shaking making the lights flicker.
"Shut up!" Meghan hissed, "Why are you even here to..."
She was cut off from what she was about to say when we heard a music coming from the end of the hall in the east wing. A sound of a piano to be exact.
"Do you hear that?" Cameron spoke, his voice clearly shaking.
"This was a bad idea." For the first time that we entered the school, I finally found the courage to speak up.
"It's kinda to late for that." Xavier said as we head to where the music was playing.
Cameron started recording with the camcorder that he brought, it was like we were filming a documentary, though much scarier. As we were already a meter away from the door, the music was much clearer this time. It was Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata.
"What now?" Xavier said as none of us dared open the door which was separating us from whatever lies on the other side. Clearly he was as frightened as us right now.
I gathered all my courage, knowing that I already saw what a ghost looks like. Slowly twisting the knob, I could already hear my heart throbbing. My head constantly saying that it was a bad idea, which was true, but it would be a waste if we back out now. With an ounce of strength left, I pushed open the door and instantly the music stopped playing.
The room was cold that we could see our own breathe, cold sweats formed like beads though the place was cold.
"All that for nothing." Xavier said coolly.
"Say's the one who was afraid." Meghan bickered.
"I wasn't." Xavier let out a dry laugh, "You were afraid."
As they were arguing about who was afraid, I knew better and checked on the piano, I could certainly feel something eerie on it, but so far nothing was happening. The piano was like the one played on stage, a grand piano. Upon inspecting it, I noticed a carved name on the fall board, Charlie Goddwin. I also noticed that the lid has some marks of red on it. I don't know if it were some clue or not, but if it was and it was haunting this piano, maybe it had some kind of an unfinished business.
"We should probably go." Xavier suggested, and we left without finding anything ghastly. Which really saved me.
"Do you know who Charlie Goddwin is?" I asked Xavier as we got into his car.
"Why'd you ask?" Xavier looked at me suspiciously and with a cold tone.
"I just found something on the piano." I said nervously.
"What happened to her was tragic." Xavier started, "I knew her since we were little, and what really happened was unforgivable."
