Chapter 16: Simpler Things
The video doesn't make any sense, nothing does. First, the video, it caught me a bit off guard seeing that there was a ghost and I can't see or feel it when we were actually there. Second was that it had a head, at first I thought that we would be dealing with something headless, given that Charlie died headless, or was dying headless not relevant and is just made up on tv shows. Lastly, the fact that Kristen can see got me shocked, mostly from the fact that she is just like me, cursed with such thing.
I laid on the bed, thinking about the video. Just the thought of it made it a bit complicated and made no sense whatsoever. I checked on our website and immediately saw the 18 minute long video, which was linked to YouTube. The video had some views and looking at the comment section made me realize on why I didn't want to be a part of this whole charade. All the mockery of people, calling us fraud. People thinking that it was just an act to gain attention.
Reading through all the comments, one of it stood from the rest; "Real or not, that face looks creepy as hell!! not kidding!" it was from someone called PatTheAwesome. Which made me curious to what he was saying. I replied to his comment with a dummy account for me not to get to much attention. Maybe he just meant one of us, like most comment reads. Deciding if ever I would delete the comment or not, a notification pop-uped.
"Seriously??? You don't see that? 16:45" The next comment said, which came from PatTheAwesome. I clicked on the link he sent and there I saw me inspecting on the piano, and that's when it hit me. He was talking about me. Which kinda hurt my ego.
"Haha! Funny the guy looked kinda hot though..." I absentmindedly replied and a minute later what PatTheAwesome replied sent chills to my spine. It was an image clip of the video and there he encircled something on the piano and saw a mutilated head. I have to re-watch the video to see if it were real and to my surprise the head was there for a second but disappeared completely before anyone else could even notice it.
I don't exactly know how many times I have been re-watching the video, but everytime I repeated that scene, the more it became clearer and more evident. For the last time, I checked the video for anymore detail when suddenly the screen went black.
For a moment, I thought that something was wrong with my computer when suddenly the screen started to glitch like crazy. The screen was flashing something and then disappear before I can even register what it was. Then another flash, this time a bit longer than the last. This time I could clearly make out what I was seeing, it was the Music Room.
The screen started flicking changing every angle in the music room until it settled down, facing by the piano. But the flicking hadn't stop. It had gotten faster and by the second a grungy figure was appearing in and out of focus, my eyes completely glued to the screen as the event was happening before my very eyes.
This time a full figure was standing by the piano and, like flicking a picture, the flash was a bit slower. Everytime my screen flashes, the figure seems to appear closer. No one prepared me for the horror that happened as the figure removed the head from its body like it was some toy and raised it directly to the screen. I watched as the horror unfolded before me. The image was clear and lifelike, it was as if I was watching it in person. And when I thought that it was over, the severed head whispered something almost inaudible before screeching.
I fell from where I sat and looked at the screen which was showing that I had a notification from PatTheAwesome, which was three hours ago. My mind was completely baffled of what just happened, I didn't know what it was and I might even say that I was completely losing my mind. Why was I so invested about this thing? Was it because of the mystery? It feels like there were messages that were forcing itself to me, but I just can't get a hold of it.
I woke up the next day with a massive headache, my body felt like it was carrying tons of brick. Just a trip in bathroom made me feel like passing out. As I moved my feet, trying to get to the shower, I felt my legs turned to jelly. Without any warning my body slumped on the floor and everything went black.
I could almost hear voices coming from the distance. The color of red and blue filled my blurry visions as someone carefully carried me. My head in intense pain. I tried to touch the throbbing part, but was stopped by someone with soft hand.

"This is all my fault." I heard someone spoke, "If only I haven't been distant, this wouldn't have happened."
"What happened?" I spoke out sluggishly. Though I probably had the longest sleep in my entire life, it felt like I was still drained, that I could barely move a muscle.
"Thank God your awake." Xavier said giving me a tight hug.
"Careful idiot!" I heard Meg from behind who just walked in, "Hey Sam. Btw's you look like crap."
"Thanks." I managed to mutter.
"Oh you're awake!" Cameron came in next, followed by Kristen.
"We were worried sick." Kristen spoke, "What happened?"
"I guess I got sick?" I stated, but came out as a question instead.
"You don't sound so sure." Meg said. She must have noticed something off, but I wasn't sure what it was.
"Anyways, all seriousness aside, I'm glad that you're doing well." Cameron spoke, clearing the serious atmosphere in the room.
They were all talking about what I missed in school that day. They were laughing and teasing each other which made me smile a little bit. Making me think of how grateful I am to be alive. And I just know how to show it. I think I'm ready to tell them my secret.
