i don't think there is anyone under your skin
like a cheshire cat I think you're just a grin
and i can feel you laughing under my skin
and the happy palpitations are making me grin* * * *
I woke up to a car alarm going off.
The noise drifted through the window on a warm air, then smashing onto my eardrums.
"What the hell?" I jolted up. There was a street outside, and I was currently sitting in a crappy apartment."I know it's crappy, that's why I live here." The familiar voice was hoarse, but still smooth.
"That makes zero sense." I felt an ice pack drop on my forehead.
"You make zero sense." He leaned over me, probably smirking. "Where's my thank you, by the way?"
"Gee, I really don't know." I tapped my chin. "Try looking up your ass and two turns to the left."
"I can look up yours, if you like." He winked, then waltzed into his small kitchen. When he came back, he had a mini plate with eggs.
"I never knew you could cook." I took the fork and the plate Fate handed me, stabbing a piece of egg. I held it up to my mouth, then paused. "Is it as disgusting as you?"
"Might even be better." He smirked, again. I could tell, you can actually hear it in his voice. He just sounds cockier. Anyways, the art of smirking needs to get a restraining order against Fate.
"Stop flirting with me." I shifted my gaze to the coffee table.
Fate laughed. "We need to go," he walked around to sit between the couch and the coffee table, sitting on his ankles. "is your arm feeling better?" A genuine sincerity took over his voice. I like this side of him, in all honesty.
"Uh, yeah. Yeah, it is." I put the plate in my lap, crossing my arms.
"That's good. It was laced with a poison, so you need to keep eating." He stood up, taking the eggs from my lap. Fate walked into the kitchen, putting the plate in the sink.
"Why?" It wasn't a bad question. Why do I have to keep eating because of poison?
"Because the poison slowly saps away your appetite. It's like anorexia, it makes you want to eat less. Eventually, you starve." He formed a small blade of the black wisps he controlled, flipping it around. "You ready to go?"
"Where are we going?" I stood up from the couch, letting my hands hang loosely at my sides.
"You ask too many questions." He rolled his eyes, grabbed my arm, and the scene of the apartment changed to a rooftop. "Look that way." Fate pointed South, and my eyes trailed along his arm to see a bomb heading towards his apartment.
"Fate, what the hell? Are you bombing your own apartment?" I screamed at him at the top of my lungs.
"Nope." He pulled at his black leather gloves. "That would be the Brethren of the Trinity trying to kill you because they know you're with a demon. Or taunt me, I'm not really sure." He turned around. "Good thing I hated that place."
"It was crappy anyways." I walked in front of him. "Where are you gonna live now?"
"Probably gonna crash at your place." He looked down at me, most likely smirking that cocky smile. I really hate him.
"Hey, don't hate me." He slumped his shoulders, hunching over. "I saved your sorry ass."
"At least you noticed my ass," I grinned, "did you like the show?"
"Your butt is too small. It makes you look that little girl you us-" Fate paused, looking away from me. "Nevermind. Where do you want to go?"
"Fate, what were you going to say?" I snatched the the side of his hood and forced him to look at me. "Why is everyone keeping secrets from me? I get thrown into this hell of a life because of something I can't control, and I get told nothing. Tell me what you were going to say, Fate." I glared at the man in front of me.
Fate grabbed my wrist, peeling it away from his hood. "You didn't answer the question, Elliott." He tilted his head to the side. "Where do you want to go?"
"I don't know," I crossed my arms, glancing away to the burning building and firetrucks rushing towards the scene. "take me home."
"Thank you." Still taking hold of my wrist, we were suddenly at my front doorstep.
"How do you know where I live?" I was scared to look up at him.
"Don't worry about it." He stepped onto the sidewalk. "Ta-ta."
"Wa-!" I held my hand out to try and catch him. But before I knew it, he was gone. "Damn you, Fate."
