"What was that all about?" Dr. MiGook asked as she waited at the register for the two cups of coffee that she had just ordered for you and her.
"(SIGH) I honestly am confused just as you are."
"Well settle it quietly. Don't let it effect your internship. Araso? (Understood?)" She stands waiting for your answer as she holds the two cups of coffee in her hands.
"Algesseubnida, Ssem (I understand doctor.)" You reply with a reassuring smile, while taking your cup of hot coffee from Dr. MiGook's hand.
Dr. MiGook's pager suddenly beeps and she runs in a hurry towards the Hospital Director's conference room leaving you behind in the cafeteria.
You take a seat by the window where Jimin had thanked you for saving Jin. You could still visualize his face of thankfulness. On that day the sun was out so warmly, but now it was dark; not even the moon was out tonight. The darkness kept your mind wondering what Jimin was currently doing right now.
(Y/N) POV-----------
Is he sleeping right now? Or is he still practicing late tonight? Should I text him and ask him what he's doing? He probably wouldn't mind. If he was busy, I bet he wouldn't reply. I'm not gonna be mad if he doesn't, so what's the harm?
TEXT MESSAGE
(Y/N)- What are you doing? Jimin-ah :)
Jimin- I'm still practicing in the studio. Maybe for a few more hours. Are you still at the hospital, Jagiya?
(Y/N)- I'm still here for another 12 hours. My shift is 18 hours today.
Jimin- Hwaiting Jagiya! <3
--------------
Before getting a chance to reply ...
Beep! Beep! Beep!
It seemed as though your resident had paged you to meet her in the ER section of the hospital. You take your last sip of the coffee and quickly head towards the intern's locker room to change back into scrubs.
--------
As you walk into the ER, the scene was hectic. Nurses ran around restocking cabinets and doctors hustling outside to the entrance of the ER with gowns and gloves on.
"Dr. (L/N), put on this gown and gloves. Bali (Hurry) and follow me." You quickly grab a pair of gloves and a blue gown and head outside following your resident. Other interns were standing by their resident's as their resident's explained serious procedures to them.
"What is going on Ssem?"
"There was a call from the police department that there was a big car accident when a 16 wheel truck flipped on the highway. It carried along a few cars as it rolled down a hill, so we are expecting many injured. Just know that you will be assisting me in surgery tonight." You smile at the thought of your first operation, while putting on your gown and gloves.
"Here's the three keys to surviving this kind of situation.
1.) Don't do anything unless I tell you to.
2.) You have NO power, NO voice, NO opinion in what happens, unless I ask for it.
3.)Don't fall asleep until I allow you. That means no rest.
Let's just hope that you drank enough coffee to keep you up."
"Geogjeonghaji maseyo Ssem.(Don't worry)" You confidently reply to Dr. MiGook with passion and adrenaline circulating your blood.
"Take this next patient with me Dr. (L/N)!" Both you and Dr. MiGook run towards an ambulance as they pull out a patient on a stretcher.
"Female. 31 years old. Her car was hit as the 16 wheeler rolled by. It looks like her spleen had ruptured in the accident. Vital sign stable but her BP (blood pressure) might drop any minute now." The Paramedics explained the patient's condition to you and Dr. MiGook as help roll the patient inside the hospital.
"Dr. (L/N), get an OR ready and scrub in with me. Also call into another intern on carting duty to help as well. Quickly! Before she bleeds out more!"
------------
"Blade 10." The nurse hands Dr. MiGook the scalpel and the surgery begins.
"Suction Dr. (L/N)."
"Ne (yes)"
"The surgery is going on the right track." Dr. MiGook reassures you as she sees your forehead is now drenched in sweat. A nurse comes by with a towel a lightly wipes the sweat off.
Ring Ring Ring
The phone inside the OR rings and a scrub nurse quickly picks it up.
"Dr. MiGook. The patient's family is outside asking how the surgery is going. Could we send someone out to talk to the family?"
Without taking her gaze off the patient she replies,
"Dr. (L/N). You go out and tell the family the patients condition. Dr. Heosok (other intern), take the suction please. Hurry and scrub back in with me."
"Algesseubnida Ssem." You take off your gown as you exit the OR, in search of the patient's chart.
"Anneonghaseyo. Are you the family of Ha Da Jung?"
"I am part of the lost children's organization. These are her two kids. Ha Do Young and Ha Shin Young. Is there mother okay?"
"For now she is in surgery...there is always a risk of death in any surgical procedure. " You explain to the representative what Ha Da Jung's condition was. The representative quickly reassured the two kids as the good news came. They smiled with innocent joy spreading widely from ear to ear. The older boy seemed to be around 10 years old and his little sister was about 6. He hugged his sister with the knowledge that there mom would be okay now.
You turn around and head back towards the operation room. As you dress yourself in a gown, gloves, and face mask, an unpleasant feeling crossed your mind. You quickly shake the thought away and finish tying your face mask before you walk into the OR.
You stop in your steps as you enter the operation room. A blanket of dark crimson blood coated the floor. Dr. MiGook and Dr. Heosok had blood stains all over their gowns. Your stomach felt as if it had just dropped and you stand still in shock at the scene.
"Hurry and help me control the bleeding Dr. (L/N)! Don't just stand there and WATCH!"
-----------
Will patient, Ha Da Jung, survive this? Do you have the potential to help Dr. MiGook save the mother? Is there still hope?
