Chapter 5, Exit the Woods.

We walk through the woods silently. He walks in front of me, making no noise while he walks; it reminds me of Legolas from The Lord of the Rings trilogy or Katniss from The Hunger games. The silence feels awkward so I try to start a conversation.

“So… what do you do up there?” I ask.

He shrugs. “I listen to music, I read”

“What kind of music?”  He doesn’t answer. “Ok, what do you read?”

He looks at me suspiciously, “Why do you want to know?”

I shrug “Just trying to be friendly” He stops all together. “You want to be my friend?”

“Yeah, why?”

He turns around. “What’s wrong?” I ask him, afraid I’d offended him somehow. “Nothing” he says sadly. Then he starts walking again,

“Well that’s obviously not nothing.” I say

He turns again “why do you care?”

Now how do I answer that? Because you’re cute? Because I like you? “Because you seem lonely” I say.

He looks back at me, curiously. Then turns and keeps going. We don’t talk the rest of the way. When we get within sight of my house, he points towards it and I go. I turn back to him and grab my pen out of my pocket, and take his hand. He looks questioningly at me but doesn’t pull back.  I write something on his hand. When I’m finished I let go and walk away. “What’s this?” he asks softly as I walk away. I look over my shoulder at the lonely boy behind me. “My number” I say then I rush inside. I close the door and sigh dreamily. I just gave a boy my number! I run up to my room and flop on Iron man’s face. I sigh again. I’m so happy with myself. “Guys!! I’m home! Come help bring in groceries!!” I here mom yell. I run down stairs to help bring in groceries.
