Part 2. The Middle
Chapter 11 Exit Left.
We run to his car. “GO! Get in the car!” Haden tells me urgently. My heart is hammering in my chest. What the heck is going on? I scramble into the car and fumble with the seat belt, still trying to understand what just happened. Haden gets into the driver’s seat, and we take off like lightning, speeding away from his burning house. My hands are shaking really bad. I’m in shock, I think. I need to go home. I look out at where we are going, expecting it to be the way home. It’s not, we are heading out if town. What? No, I want to go home.
“Take me home” I say as calmly as I can. Haden sighs, “Terre, I can’t…”
“Take Me HOME!” I scream, tears running down my face. This is so over whelming. “No, that’s where they’ll look for us first, we’re leaving town.” He explains.
I blink. I’m being kidnapped. I’m being kidnapped by my crush. Which would be kind of exciting if this was a book, but it’s not. It’s my life and I’m being kidnaped. I look at Haden. “You’re kidnapping me” I say. He looks confused, “no I…” I interrupt. “You are kidnapping me!? WHY?!?” He looks aggravated. “Because I like you!” he yells quietly, which is an oxymoron, but the only way I can describe it. “Yes, because that’s exactly how you express endearment towards a girl!” I snap, feeling a bit like Spider-Man with the snarky comment.
He looks at the road but I can tell he’s blushing. I look down too. I notice I still have my knife, and my bag. That’s good. And I’m still wearing Jackie’s jacket. “Ok. Please explain to me what’s going on” I tell Haden. “Well. Yesterday I saw the cellar door was open so I went down there, because I was curious. I went down there and I saw all that weird stuff. I found some letters from a woman named Gea, who was telling them that she wanted a specific person for something. That person was you Terre. She wants you for a power of some sort. I don’t understand it much, but from what I could pick up, you’re like this mega powerful witch an-“ I interrupt him again “I am not a witch!” he looks at me then continues. “Anyway, you’re this mega powerful…. Person and she want your power. I picked up one of the books and was reading in it when my parents found me and tied me up down there until you got here” he tries to explain. “It said that there are six elements, Death, Life, Wild, Sky, Sun, and Moon. People who control them are called Elementalists or something like that”
I rub my head trying to understand. “So a big bad scary witch wants me and your parents work for her and thus want to kill me?” I pause “Where do you fit in?” I ask him.
“I’m not sure. I think I just got thrown in by accident. From what I read you’re the most powerful elementalists in this and the past century, so she wants your power for her own personal evil goals”
“So your trying to protect me?” he nods I feel annoyance bubble up inside of me. “And you couldn’t have protected me without kidnapping me?!” I exclaim. “Hey, I didn’t know about this till last night” he says.
He’s right. I’m just taking this out on him, and he’s had enough of that in his life. “I’m sorry, it’s just this is insane.” I tell him. “Yeah I know” I don’t say anything for a moment, letting it soak in. “so, what’s our plan?” I ask. “I think there’s an Elementalists society thing in Chicago. We should head there and try to find help” I nod “it’s a plan”
