Chapter 22 Why?
At what I assume is dinner time, the Fay come and drag me to a dining room. I notice as I go that the cave house is lit with glowing crystals. A crystal chandelier hangs from the roof of the dining room. Gea is already there, and I sit at the opposite side of the table from her. We are served an odd dish of mushrooms and fish by the fay. I wonder how she’s trained them to serve her. Probably scared them into it with her terrible make up, I think. I keep my head bowed for most of the meal, which I mostly pick at, but risk a quiet question after a little bit “ma’am, what exactly is the power that you took from me?” I ask her quietly. She makes an expression of mock pity “Oh, silly girl, you think you had talent! No, no, you, have no power as in ‘talents’ or ‘ability’s’ that make you special. You have power in the sense that you have energy. My dear are a vessel of raw energy. Raw, limitless energy. I could take as much as I want and keep coming back for more. That’s why I am keeping you alive, my little pet, to feed off of you. But of course we had to use the pomegranates, because you would have tried to escape otherwise.” She explains. We finish eating and then Gea says “now, off to bed, I think. Oh and if you want to know what’s going on in the world above, I don’t know why you would it’s so boring, but if you want to, there’s a little TV, in your room. It’ll show you what you want to see.” she says as she walks away to her room. I stand and let the fay lead me back to my room. I look for the little TV she was telling me about; I find it and turn it on. I don’t see a remote or a cord, so I assume its fay magic powered. “Can you show me Haden?” I ask it quietly. The black of the box swirls and Haden comes into view. He’s pounding on a tree with his bare fists. They look raw and bloodied, but he keeps punching it. “stupid, idiot… can’t frickin’ save her” he mumbles angrily as he pummels the innocent tree. He swings harder than he had before, smashing his hand into the tree, the tree (I hope it was the tree and not his hand) makes a loud cracking noise. “Argh!” he yells, waving his hand around as if that will help the pain. He turns around breathing heavily, leaning against the tree. He slides down and sits looking at nothing. After about a second he stands up again and starts kicking the tree. “You’re going to hurt yourself” I say to myself. Lily, (who was sitting on my shoulder) looks at me, then flies straight at the TV. She goes through it and lands on the other side, right In front of Haden. He looks surprised at the sudden Fay in front of him. “You’re going to hurt yourself” she says in a perfect imitation of my voice. Haden’s eyes widen. “Terre?” he asks Lily. She shakes her head, and flies strait at the screen and pops back here. He gets up and starts looking for her. “Hey! Little green, fairy, thing… come back!” he calls looking around frantically. I look at lily, “Tell him that I’m ok, and that he needs to stop beating himself, and the wild life, up over this, it was my choice I ate the pomegranates” I say to lily, she salutes me and flies back to Haden. “Tell him that I’m ok, and that he needs to stop beating himself, and the wild life, up over this, it was my choice, I ate the pomegranates.” She says in my voice. “Terre? How are you talking to me? Did Gea turn you into this, green fairy thing?” he asks lily, who looks indignant at being called a ‘thing’. I look around in my room for paper and a pencil and see a note book on the shelf. I grab it and start writing. I write one note for Haden, one for Jackie and one for my mom. Lily flies back into my room looking exhausted. “Can you give him this?” I ask her, she nods tiredly, and flies back to Haden. She drops the note in front of him. He reads what I wrote. The note said ‘dear Haden. Please stop abusing wild life over me. Seriously, save the trees. And second, it’s not your fault that Gea took me. It was my own choice; I did it to save you. I don’t think I’ll be able to escape. But please keep going to the Elementalists, tell them what she did, and maybe they can stop her. I also want you to know that yes, I can see you, and that no, Gea did not turn me into a fay, the little messenger is lily, please don’t call her a thing. She takes that personally. I will try to give you more info with Lily. This is all I have to say right now and lily is exhausted. I love you.’ I was almost crying when I wrote it. I cry a lot, I think, I need to stop this and toughen up if I’m going to be a spy for Haden. Haden finishes reading the note, he looks distraught. But he nods, and puts the note in his pocket. “I will, Terre, and I love you too” I turn off the TV. I hide the notes for Jackie and Mom under the matteres, I’ll send them later. Right now, I need rest. Lily has already passed out on my book shelf. I look through the wardrobe and spot some pajamas that would work for me. A light brown cami with a lace trim, and a pair of lose sleep pants. I change and lie down and go to sleep.
