Chapter 13 My Precious.

It’s a good thing I turned the noise down because I get a million messages, Haden can’t hear them but I can feel them in my pocket. I don’t want him to know that I’ve talked to anyone. I just don’t trust him as much as I had before. I know he ‘kidnapped’ me for my own good but I still haven’t forgiven him for not taking me home.

We drive for a while then at around twelve, stop to eat some food. We drive to truck stop. It’s one of the ones without any buildings, just a place to stop and get out. It’s surrounded by woods, and the ground is gravel. We get out and walk around a little, stretching and such then we eat our food.

As we eat, I notice this weird rock. It’s sort of got this green glow to it.  I get up to look at it and see what’s wrong with it, but as I get closer the glow starts to fade. I walk around the rock, which is about two feet high, inspecting it. Haden looks at me curiously. “What are you doing?” he asks. “I don’t know, it’s just this rock is really weird. I think it was glowing”.  I say Haden raises and eyebrow. “Glowing?” I turn back to him and shrug.

I start walking back to him. Suddenly the rock explodes, I turn and standing in its place is a little person made of rock. “Uh I think I’ve made a friend” I call to Haden

“What is that?” He asks, startled

 “I have no idea.”

Out of the shadows of the trees, The Underlan’s are here. “That, children, is a golem. It’s made from an element of my choice, rock, in this case.” Says Mrs. Underlan.

“You’re a Wild Elementalists?” I ask stupidly.

She looks indignantly at me. “I am a sorcerer, not a pathetic, single element Elementalists.” She says. “We can control all six elements” says Mr. Underlan. The golem comes at us and tackles me. Mrs. Underlan makes another golem, a fire golem, which goes after Haden. He jumps out of the way, into the shadows of the trees. I lose sight of him, and focus on the rock golem.

“Um, hi! Is there any way you might get off of me?” It just looks at me “or just ignores me that works too”

I start squirming and trying to get away from it. It’s really heavy but I keep moving, or trying to anyway.  Out of the trees comes Haden. He throws a rock at his golem, it goes right through it. He mutters something under his breath; I assume swear words, and keeps running. He heads over to me. I start squirming more and Haden grabs my hand. He pulls and I push. The golem starts sinking its legs into the ground, becoming a clamp that keeps me stuck.

Haden starts pulling really hard, hurting my arm and the ribs that he golem has trapped. “Let me go!” I yell at the golem. As I yell, I feel like electricity is running through me, it falls apart as I speak. I stand up, my arm and ribs acing. Mr. Underlan starts towards me, and I quickly grab a rock. I throw it as hard as I can at him, but I miss. That was why I wasn’t a big baseball person. I think. He makes more golems. Mrs. Underlan comes around the other side of us, trying to trap us.

“You can’t escape us” Mrs. Underlan screams. More golems spring from the ground. They circle us. We stand in the middle back to back

“What are we going to do?” I whisper to Haden.

 “I have no clue”

I nod. “Good answer” I look around for anything we could use to help us escape. I start thinking about the golem from earlier. I wonder if I can control these ones too. Maybe I can. What exactly did I do? I just yelled. “Hey! Go away!” I yell at the golems. I feel the electricity again. They all sort of shudder, a couple collapse.

Mr. Underlan frowns. “What did you do?”

I honestly have no idea. I assume it’s got something to do with why they want me. I glance at Haden; he looks at me and nods. We take off for the car. “Hey!” yells Mr. Underlan. “Get them!” exclaims Mrs. Underlan.  The remaining golems are clunky, but come at quiet quickly. Haden and I grab out bags from the picnic table, and we get into the car.

The golems are still following us. Haden starts the car and we take off. I look back at the picnic area. A small flash of green comes out of nowhere and the golems melt immediately. The Underlan looks surprised that the golems have melted.  They get over they’re shock quickly and start chasing us on foot. In case any of you were wondering, cars are much faster than middle aged sorcerers. We speed away, leaving them in the dust, literally.
