Chapter Twenty-Nine

I squeeze my eyes shut, waiting for the final blow. But it never comes. I hear a gasp and open my eyes.

In front of me, Jane's face is contorted into one of pain and surprise, blood dripping out of the corner of her mouth.

I furrow my eyebrows and look down seeing the large butcher knife poking out of her stomach. The knife is pulled out, a large crack echoing off the walls.

My eyes widen and I gasp as I look behind her to see Shadow, grinning and holding Jane's body upright.

"Fuck you." He hisses before plunging the knife into her chest, piercing her heart.

Soon, she drops to the ground with a thud and all the life leaves her eyes.

Shadow looks back up to me, his eyes blazing red. His face is bruised and his clothes are bloody.

"S-shadow?" I croak out. Tears forming in my eyes. I tense as he reaches out to me, scared he'll hurt me.

He did help put me here after all.

How can I trust him?

He cups my cheek gently and wipes away a fallen tear.

"I'm so sorry Sky." He whispers. He then reaches down to my feet, unchaining them. He then undoes my hands and go falling towards the concrete coated with my blood.

The impact never comes as Shadow catches me and lays me gently down on his lap.

"Shhh, it's okay." He hums and I tremble.

"Wh-what are you d-doing? Why a-are you- you helping-g m-me?" I whisper and he shakes his head.

"I'm so sorry Sky. I was so blinded by my own selfishness that I didn't know what I was doing. I'm so sorry. I didn't know she was going to torture you. I thought she was just-" Shadow explains but before he can continue, his body gets ripped away from me and thrown across the basement.

A figure kneels down beside me and I sob into Jeff's chest. "You-you found me." I whisper, my throat sore and voice raspy.

"What did she do to you Sky?" He whispers soothingly, pushing a hair away from my face and tucking it behind my ear.

"S-shadow..." I trail, pointing towards him standing up and stumbling a little bit. Jeff growls and stands up, picking me up and handing me over to EJ.

As EJ drags me outside, I hear Jeff hiss at Shadow. "You never should've touched her. Now you're going to pay."

"No, EJ. Put me down." I whisper-yell but he shakes his head.

"I can't. You're safe now." He reassures but I still struggle in his arms. He holds me tighter before setting me on my feet.

Masky hugs me before giving me a quick check-over.

A painful scream erupts from the basement. Shadow's scream.

I start running to the door, but Masky grabs me, holding me back.

"No! Let me go!" I scream and claw at his arm.

I turn around and kick him in the crutch. He grunts and falls over, still reaching for me though.

I run to the door and stumble down the stairs.

I trip a few times but brush it off.

Skidding into the basement, pain exploding from every inch of my body, I look in shock to see Shadow laying on the ground in defeat. Jeff paces towards him, raising his knife for the last time.

I jump in front of Shadow and linger in front of him. "Jeff, please, d-don't." I pant from exhaustion and Jeff stops mid-strike.

"Skylar, move." He growls. I shake my head and turn to Shadow, cupping his cheek.

"Shadow?" I whisper and he looks at me. "It's okay, he's not going to hurt you." I continue and turn to glare at Jeff.

"But...he hurt you." Jeff mumbles, his shoulders slumped.

"He never touched me." I say turning back to Shadow.

Slowly, he starts to heal and his wounds are only mere scars.

I look down and my injuries are the same. There's nothing left but bloody patches.

Shadow strands up and pulls me up with him, engulfing me in a hug.

I squeeze him back and my body trembles from the pain still emanating through my body.

Not a word is spoken as we all leave the basement. Slendy takes Jane's body away to dispose of it properly.

Once we're outside, Jeff pulls me to him by my waist and crashes his lips to mine. I swing my hands to his neck and deepen the kiss. After a few moments of Jeff and I 'making out' someone beside us clears their throat.

I turn to Shadow and smile at him. Jeff nods and leaves, heading over to the tree line waiting for me.

"I'm sorry, Sky. I-" I cut him off by placing my finger on his lips.

"Stop apologising." I whisper to him and he nods, looking down.

"Hey, I'll come visit okay?" Shadow nods and hugs me. Before he walks off, I give him a small kiss on the cheek and watch as his skin flushes pink.

I chuckle and give him a slight punch on the shoulder. He smiles in return and walks off in silence.

Looking back to Jeff, who was now standing next to me, he places a kiss on my lips before we all start walking back to the mansion.

While walking there, I end up next to Masky and hold his hand. He looks down at me and I can tell he's smiling.

"Hey, don't think too much of it." I chuckle and he shrugs.

My eyes start to droop and I yawn, getting tired. Masky stops and I know exactly what he's thinking. I jump on his back and he holds me up, while I rest my head on his back and slowly drift to sleep.

Short chapter, I know. But I wanted to end it there. I know that was pathetic but oh well. There's only 1 or 2 chapters left in my book and I'll end it there.
