Chapter 8: Picking Out A Costume

"Have you thought about what your gonna be for Halloween yet?" Autumn asks me while playing on my pin-ball machine. It may have shocked everyone when I made friends, but I think it shocked me the most. Autumn, Carolyn, Dana, and I have really gotten to know each other really well. They know about my crush on Ethan and the little one on TheFrais1234. I shrug my shoulders. "Why do I need a costume if I'm not doing anything?" I take a bite out of my licorice. Dana's head pops up. "You never know, Quinn. Ethan can ask you to go to a party with him."

"Or, to make matter's easier, we can just go to the Hallows Eve party they're having at school." Carolyn suggests. "Okay, say we go to that, we don't have any costumes." Autumn stops playing pin- ball and sits next to Carolyn. "Okay, then lets go get some. Go get Rayna and call mom. We're gonna need a lot of opinions." Dana and I laugh while Carolyn and Autumn start walking out of the cave. "You don't think she's serious about this, do you?" I ask Dana. "Oi! Get off your asses and come on!" My mom calls. We hop up and run out the house. The girls and my mother were outside and ready to go. "Come on people, we got costumes to get." Brenda waves her hand in the direction of the car. We all get in and my mom drives off to the costume store.

"Okay girls, come out." My mom says gently. All four of us step out of the dressing room. My mom shakes her head at me while Dana, Carolyn, and Autumn get approving smiles. "Harley, why did you pick out the pumpkin costume after we told you not to?" Carolyn asks. Dana and Autumn snicker while my mom stands up. "Even I know my daughter can get sexier than this." she walks off to go look for another costume. Brenda laughs. "Well, at least you went with something that brings out your eyes a little." We all burst into laughter. My mom comes back seconds later with a costume in plastic wrap. "Put your clothes on, I got you something... sexy." My mom winks at me. Dana chuckles and I sheepishly walk into the dressing room and change into my clothes. I couldn't help but wonder what my mom had gotten me. I push the various thoughts to the back of my head and walk out of the dressing room. I look through my purse for my wallet when I collide into a rock hard body.

"Son of a- ...Ethan?" I say rubbing my nose. Ethan's face goes into total shock. "Harley Quinn? We gotta stop meeting like this." He says, smiling down at me. "You're right." I playfully punch his arm. " So what are you going to be?" He puts his hands in his pocket. "To be honest, I have no clue. My mom picked this out after I tried on this pumpkin costume." I point to the bright orange suit that was hanging on my arm. "So is this how you spend your Saturday's in October?" He asks me when we get to the door. I look out the corner of my eye and see Autumn, Carolyn, Dana, Brenda, and my mom looking at us with huge smiles. I shrug my shoulders. "Uh, no. I'm actually having a daddy/ daughter night with my dad tonight. We do it every other Saturday." I say. Then a girl around Nick's age comes up to him.

"Ethan, come on mom's ready to..." She smiles at me and stretches out a hand. "Hi, I'm Magenta, Ethan's sister. I'm sorry to interrupt, but our moms are ready to go." Magenta starts tugging on his arm. " Are you going to the Hallows Eve Party on Friday?" He asks before she manages to pull him away. I nod and he shouts, "I am too! I'll see you there?" He smiles at me. "Yeah. See you there." I return the smile and walk out of the store. Everyone in the car is trying to act as if they weren't watching me. I get in and mom my is the first one to speak up.

"So, who was that boy?" She says. "RAYNA!!!" Everyone screams at her and we all laugh the way home.
