Rejected at First Sight

Chapter 9

The Elders looked at each other after my story and I could tell that they were talking through mind link.  I got nervous. I had a bad feeling and I was scared. When all the men finally got done talking, Jason stood up. He then said,"We have reviewed each story very carefully. We believe that no wrong doing has happen what so ever." My heart stopped. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I looked over at Viktor and he was whiter than snow. "We must punish Viktor, for not only baring false accusations, but for wasting our time, knowing full well he is to blame for this." I stared at Viktor the entire time Jason said this. His face just got whiter and whiter. That's when I realized I carried no remorse or guilt for him. He had done this to himself. I sighed a relief. He was finally going to feel what I felt the day that he rejected me. 

Jason then turned to us and told us we were free to go. When Ash and I got out of the room, Uncle Kane and Drake met us in the lobby. Drake got to me first and gave me a big hug. Uncle Kane did the same. Ash then took me and gave me a big kiss. I don't know how long we stood there kissing, but I really didn't care anymore. After we pulled apart Uncle Kane motioned for us to follow him. Ash took my hand and we followed.

Uncle Kane led us to our car and said he would meet us there. We nodded and got into our car. When Ash shut the door I sighed another big sigh. We had just passed a big bump in our life. We haven't even started to rule and we had gone through a big mile stone. "Well, that went well." I laughed. "How did you expect it to go?" "Honestly I have no idea. I figured they would still punish me from mating you even though I knew you already had a mate somewhere else." "I was so scared that that is what they were going to do, but like you said, punishing us would be like fighting fire, it wouldn't end well for them." Ash sighed. "Well now that we got that over are you ready to rule an entire species and raise two kids." I had to laugh at that. Compared to the things that me and Ash face next this was nothing. 

The drive home was way better than the drive there. When we got home everyone jumped on us asking the question we both knew would be on their minds. What happened? We had everyone sit down and we explained everything to them. My dad laughed when I told him about when I looked into Jason's eyes and felt calm. "What's so funny?" "Jason is one of your relatives, I'm not sure how I forget, but in our bloodline, there tends to be some of the Darkwoods that have a special power. Jason's is keeping someone calm in the most awful situations and your Uncle Kane's is knowing when someone is lying." "Oh, do you have a so called power?" "No, I didn't get one." "When will you know if you have one or not?" "You normally find out right away if someone has a special gift or not." "Is it random then?" "From what I can tell, Kane and I are brothers and only he got it." I nodded my head. "I wonder is Shannon or Xander will have one." "If they do we will find out soon enough." I sighed. I was exhausted after today. I knew that the next couple weeks I only wanted to just be a mom. Nothing else to do, but just be a mother to my twins.

That night I got ready for bed and I went to check on the twins. The both laid in the same crib and were holding each other hand. It was the cutest thing on the planet. I mind linked to Ash to come look at this. When he got in here he came from behind and wrapped his arms around my waist, looking over my shoulder. "Look at our perfect children." I smiled. "I know, we have the most precious babies in the world." I looked over at Ash and he smiled down at me. He grabbed my waist and pulled me close. I loved being in his arms. I felt safe and secure. Ever since I found Ash I knew that nothing would ever hurt me again. Ash brought his lips closer to mine. When they finally touched, it was a very gentle kiss. When we broke away, we both sighed. We looked into each other eyes and no words had to said. Our eyes said to each other how much we loved each other and would always be there for each other.

That night, we got in bed and I suddenly felt like someone was watching us. I looked around the room and nothing was out of the ordinary. I turned toward Ash and snuggled myself closer to him. He responded and pulled me tighter. I sighed in content. I couldn't think of a better way to fall asleep. I drifted off to sleep very easily. The twins woke us every two hours, it was like clock work. Ash and I would take turns getting up to see what the babies needed. It was about 4:30 in the morning when I got that same sensation of being watched. I looked over the room again and this time I swear I saw something outside the window. "Ash!" Ash came running into the room and I pointed to the window. He pushed the curtain and nothing was there. He looked at me and then back out the window. He looked on the ground and said,"There are footprints here." I gulped. "I thought we were being watched, but I just let it go." Ash came to me and scooped me into his arms and set me in his lap. I closed my eyes and thought this couldn't be happening. Ash just sat there comforting me. 

We couldn't go back to sleep after that and when everyone was up we brought it up at breakfast. Mom and dad were appalled, Dean was livid, and my Uncle Kane and Drake were just as mad. "We will set up a perimeter for the house. No one is coming in, out, or around this house without one of our guards knowing." my uncle announced. "How is that going to stop whoever that was? Just because we have extra security doesn't mean that they can't slip through or kill someone to get to us." I said. "Jocie this is just the first step. We can't take a chance. I can't lose you." Dean said. I got up to hug him. I knew he was still hurting over his first mate, but luckily he now had Naomi. "Fine, but how the heck am I supposed to go on with my everyday business with guards swarming?" "We will get through it, this is just until we figure out who it is and what do they want." Dad said. I sighed in defeat. 

After we finished breakfast Shannon and Xander started crying. I went to get Shannon as Ash went to get Xander. We got them what they needed and we just held them for a long time. "They'll be a month this coming Saturday." Ash said in awe. "Wow were does time fly?" Ash and I traded kids. It was so hard to believe that a month ago they weren't born yet."A month ago we thought we were just having one baby." Ash laughed at that. "But we were blessed with two." I smiled. I have been so lucky to have such a wonderful mate and to have been blessed with twins.
