“Drew, there's someone here to meet you.” Jack tells the young orphan.

“Who is it?” Drew checks, glaring at the older man as he lies smart clothes on his bed.

“It's a potential family-” Jack starts.

“-No!” Drew yells.

“Drew, for heaven's sake, stop being so childish!” The adult demands.

“No! I don't want to meet a new family! I'm not leaving-” He gets cut off by a sharp slap on his face.

“You don't have a choice, Drew! So just get dressed into something presentable and meet the family with a smile.” Jack orders.

Drew grinds his jaw in frustration, doing everything he can to hold back tears. As much as he wishes to keep arguing to stay, he doesn't trust himself to even speak without crying.

“Am I understood?” Jack growls.

Drew nods, sulkily picking up one of the shirts and getting changed. He's then guided to the family through the orphanage with Jack's hand on his shoulder.

When they arrive the mother and father smile at the sight of their new potential child.

“Drew, I'd like you to meet the Bakers. They've expressed an interest in you.” Jack introduces. “Say hello.”

Drew nervously looks up. “H-hi.” He quietly manages, deep down feeling dreadfully guilty since the whole time he can't help but think about Shane.

“I did tell you, he's shy when it comes to meeting new people.” Jack laughs socially.

“What do you think, honey? Isn't he exactly what we're looking for?” The woman asks her husband.

“Yes. I think we'll take him.” The husband replies.

Drew's heart stops at hearing the very words he's dreaded hearing ever since meeting Shane. He looks at Jack pleadingly, feeling his eyes watering up.

“That's great news, when do you want him?” Jack asks the family.

“As soon as possible.” The man replies.

Drew shakes his head with a whimper.

“You will have him tomorrow. He just needs to take a day to pack his things and get ready to move into his new home.” Jack informs them, still resting a firm hand on Drew's shoulder.

The second this gets decided, the family open their arms for a hug. Drew steps back fearfully, looking at the only familiar face in the room to see the man's eyebrows raised in warning. This makes Drew gulp before shakily stepping forwards to hug them. The whole time Drew still can't help but wish he was with Shane.
