Chapter 3

Clary's POV

After my encounter with Zayn last night i drove straight home.My aunt had loccked me out so i had to climb the side of the house and go in through my open window.Since im a vampire i cant sleep...well i can but i choose not too cause Adam always tries to contact me through them.which is smart of him since last time he came to me in person i tried to rip out his throat.Adam has always been trying to get me to partner up with him and become a full vampire but i have been turning the offer down.but its been 10 years and soon i will have to choose.become full vampire and let the Darkness take over or die.i am tempted to choose the second choice.The Darkness is the thing that makes you a vampire.you craving,your power and all that but its as if its on a leash and if you take the leash off its free.It takes over.It kills the last humanness in you.

The Darkness makes you have to stay in the shadows and out of daylight, makes you only drink human blood.I dont want that.I have tried to be as human as possible.Since im not a full vampire, a fledgling,i still have a soul and humanness in me.But when i turn 20 i will have to give that up either way."Clary come down and eat breakfast"my Aunt called down to me.suprised i looked out the window and saw the sun had risened.i changed into skinny jeans, a purple v-neck and slid in my combat boots.I grabbed my leather jacket off my chair and went down stairs.I ddnt need to worry about my mouth stained red,my hair being messy,or smelling like the woods cause i had tooken care of all that last night."goodmorning Clary"my aunt Jackie said to me as i walked in."morning Jackie"i said to her.she was in her late 20's and moved here with her husband Shaun 5 years ago."i heard you up late last night you really should go to sleep early"she said to me as she poured me some orange juice and slid me a plate of pancakes and sausage."sry but eventually i sleep as if im dead"i said.My aunt also doesnt know that i am a vampire.i drank my orange just and took nibles of the pancake.

I cant eat much cause then i will throw it up and throwing up food and blood sends a panick to the people who tried to comfort me.My aunt laughed and went back to reading the newspaper and drinking her coffee."im goinging into town you need anything"i said to her as i put my plate and cup in the sink."eggs and milk please"she called to me as i headed out the door.I got in my car and drove into town.My aunt Jackie chose a house in the middle of the woods for privacy 10 minutes out of town.I ddnt mind at all.I parked my car in grocery store parking lot and went in.I felt people stare at me but i ignored it and acted as if i ddnt hear there whispers.as i was looking at the tea section i heard a squeel of joy behind me.

I turned and saw a skinny green eyed girl with dark brown hair smiling at me like a crazy person.can this town get any weirder."Clary.Your back.i never thought i was going to see you again"she said as she gave me a hug.I froze.slowly i peeled her arms off me."do i know you"i asked."It me Kendall.we were best friends before you...before all teh stuff happened that made you leave"she said choosing her words carefully.Her eyes were filled with excitement it reminded me of a hyper kid.then i remebered.Me and Kendall had been best friends since kinder garten.Me and her would do everything together."Kendall.Wow you have changed alot.its so nice to see you again.how have you been"i said to her."good.how have you been" she said."oh you know having the town fear me, i killed my family, and im buying tea.

Yup im living the good life of a 19 year old"i said.Kendall laughed."you have not changed a bit.im sorry about what happened with you family.I know you didnt mean to do it"she said to me.Kendalls eyes held a secret when she looked at me.I ignored it."you have no idea how much i wish i could go back to that night and fix it"i muttered as i turned back and picked a tea packet thing and went to the dairy isle.Kendall followed."hey do you wanna hang out?you know catch up"she said grabbing a yogurt as i grabbed the milk and then went towards the eggs."sure i guess.i have nothing else to do"i said."but are you sure? the town is probably going to label you the freaks best friend"i added."egh whatever.I doesnt bother me.They all ready think im crazy for defending you when they say ...things about that night"she said."okay then but i gotta pay for this and drop it by my aunts house"i said and went to the counter.

Kendall had already ate some of her unpaid yogurt.Just then i saw Zayn get in line behind us.Kendall stared wide eyed and she seemed to have stopped breathing.i ignored him and payed."come on Kendall.you look like a fish"I said to her.she snapped out of ehr daze and followed me outside but still looking shocked.once we were seated in my car she seemed to calm down."that was the closest i have ever been.Zayn Malik is just so ...well look at him"she said as Zayn walked out of the store.He was coming towards.I stumbled to get the keys in the ignition but my fingers were shaky.I dont want to talk to him.He has seen what i am.I just cant."hey Clary.I figured we could hang now instead of later on"he said through Kendalls open window.too late.

i closed my eyes and took a deep breath."fine get in"i said.Kendall went back to looking like a fish."kendall calm down.gawd you act as if he is a celebrity"i muttered to her.she stared at me wide eyed but then she calmed down."sry just ...nothing"she said as Zayn got in the back seat."so did i inturrupt anything"Zayn said."yes"."no".me and kendall said at the same time.Zayn looked amused.I wanted to slap him but i chose to drive instead."Zayn this is Kendall.She is my friend from when i used to llive here.and now we were just catching up"i said to him."well isnt that great.you have someone who isnt scared of you"Zayn said.I looked at him from the rearveiw mirrow.

He looked at me and smiled and made a thumbs up sign."so you and Clary know each other"Kendall said feeling the tension in the air."yes actually.we met yesterday evening in the cafe and then agian at the-"i cut Zayn off as i braked real hard and he was thrown forward but caught himself.Kendall had her seat belt on so she was alright just a bit frightened."what the hell"Kendall said."sry there was a squirell running across the road"i lied.Zayn kept his mouth shut.he got the message.I drove towards my Aunts house.I parked in the drive way and got out.Kendall and Zayn stayed seated in the car."im not going to bite.jeesh there was a squirell.come on lets go inside"i said to them.They got off and followed me inside."Jackie i got the eggs and milk"i yelled once i got inside the house.i went to the kitchen and there was a note on the counter.'went to meet Shaun for lunch' it said.i looked at the clock.I was suprised to see it was 11:54.

I put the grocerys away and turned to see Zayn studying me."what"i snapped at him."well someone woke up in the wrong coffin"he said looking amused."someone needs to shut up"i said to him.i walked passed him and into the living room.Kendall was studying the pictures on the wall."your aunt went to Brazil"she asked looking at the pictures."yup and to china, hawaii, italy,germany, paris and a bunch of otheer places i dont remeber.She got married in London though"i said.she had arranged the wedding in London so i could attend."that is so cool"kendall whispered.Zayn was looking at a picture of my family.It was when i was 8 and we had took a trip to New York.His face looked sad."okay so i havnt hung out with any friends or Zayns in a long time sooo.."i said.

"Clary why did you leave so far away"Kendall asked suddenly.she was studying me with her green eyes.i gulped."cause my aunt thought it was better if i was far away from here"i said.that was half of the truth the other was that she simply didnt want to take care of a 9 year old killer."oh.are you hungry we can go order some burgers"she asked."no i ate breakfast and that filled me a bit"i lied.I could feel Zayns gaze studieing us."are you thirsty then?I know how to make a killer bloody mary...nonalcoholic of ourse"she said.my palms are sweaty.She knows.

"what are you trying to make me come clean about"i said."your not human"she simply said.I froze."Really last time i checked i was breathing and i have a heartbeat"i said to her."Clary im not going to get scared or mad.I have seen weirder things these days.I have a idea of what you are and i think i can help you"she said."what am i then.A bird"i said.i swallowed the small fear i felt and prepared myself for her answer."a vampire"she said.there it was the ugly truth."zayn knows too doesnt he?But he is a vampire hunter and yet you still let him in you car and house"she said looking at a pale Zayn."how do you know all this"Zayn asked."i dont alway drool over you along with the girls.I am also you neighbor.i hear you and the boys training inside or outside.and you take off at night and come back late at night with guns and other stuff.as for Clary i guessed.I knew she wasnt human though and i have been ressearching cases like hers since i was 13"Kendall said."and yet you dont hate me"i said."no.you are my best friend.I wanna be a part of this.if Zayn isnt killing you then that means they are hunting a different vampire in Festus"she said.Her eyes gleamed with hope.

"she is smarter than i thought.

she already knows everything without much explaining"Zayn said."fine but its a dangerous world you want to be in"i told her."yay"she squealed and gave me a hug.she truly was crazy.this time i hugged her back.then she was going to hug Zayn and Zayn looked a bit startled so she just high fived him.i laughed."but you cant say anything about this to anyone"i said."are you stupid.if i did then i would be sent off to a crazy hospital"she said."well looks like we are the 3 musketeers"Zayn said.
