Broken Pieces

Chapter 5

 My body is getting tired now. It's been three weeks since I left the Walker house hold, and I miss Allen desperately. Who would have thought I would miss him the way I do now? My mother or Father?. No they wouldn't know because I can't remember them. My Memories are slowly coming back to me and they're horrifying. Most of them have been me running and deaths of people I assume I used to know, is all this linked to why I;m being hunted down and I had to leave the only place that felt like home? and why I ended up half dead in the forest?

                                                --- An Excerpt From Elements Five's Journal

Allen sat in class looking out the window, not really paying attention to the Lesson that Mr. Binge was teaching in History. Lately Allen had felt like he had more energy, endurance and power. And he thought it was probably from the fragment of Veronica's soul. His hand subconsciously went to his right shoulder. And thought about that morning when Allen had questioned his sister Cassie. Today the Spirit Arithian would be coming over and Mom, Dad, and Angie were at Disney for the next two weeks. It felt strange that they didn't remember Veronica at all. The bell rang signalling the last period was over. Allen quickly walked over to his Locker and grabbed his bag and stuck his Ipod earbuds into his ears and turned on the music. He decided to walk the two miles home and by the time he was home his parents were officially gone and there was another car in the drive. Must be the Spirit Arithian Allen thought as he walked past the car and up the steps leading into the house. As Allen walked into the kitchen he saw an elderly woman talking to his sister in a low voice. She  turned to him as she heard him enter the kitchen and he nodded. The Elderly woman smiled and motioned for him to sit down. He sat down beside his sister and put his bag down on the ground.

"So you must be Allen" Said the elderly woman

"Yes ma'am" Allen said respectfully. 

"Oh  just call me Eileen, dear" Said the woman smiling.

"Eileen, could you possibly tell us what's going on with my brother" asked Cassie reminding everybody of the task at hand

"Of course sweetie, But I need something of Veronica's"

"Would a piece of her soul do?" Allen asked

"It certainly would, now you just scoot over here darling and I'll begin" Allen did as he was told and sat beside Eileen. Allen rolled up his sleeve and revealed Veronica's ranking. The elderly woman blinked in surprise and glanced at Cassie then she put one frail hand on Allen's arm and took a deep breath in. Allen got a whole head-to-toe feeling and then the woman took her hand away.

"How did this mark come to be?" she asked Allen

"What do you mean?"

"This mark is very powerful in emotion both protectiveness. What were you doing with the girl the night before you got this mark?"

"Well, I was kissing her" Allen said with his face slightly red.

"Hmmm" The elderly woman said

"So what did she do?" Cassie asked the woman.

"When I first came here I felt the presence of a very strong Arithian and as I spend more time here the more I get the feeling that the girl thought this place as her home, rather than a strangers house. I could tell from the fragment of her spirit that she wanted to protect what was dear to her . And she loves you deeply Allen, because the spirit in you is strong and because of  that, you have a strong element. The one that best suits you in her opinion and I agree with her," Eileen said watching Allen.

"So what did she leave me?" Allen asked

"As you know she left you a part of her soul, literally torn from her, and she gave you heightened abilities that naturally increase your endurance,agility,power and speed which will help protect yourself in a normal fight between humans"

"Go on" said Cassie leaning forward

"And if you were to get into a fight with an Arithian or a Seeker she left you the power of one of the Elements, that bests suits you and she did a very good job when choosing" Eleen said looking at the mark in fascination.

"So which one is it?" Allen asked wanting to know.

"She left you the Element Earth as well as a good amount of resistance to the other Elements"

"Earth? what can Earth do? I was hoping for fire or water" said Cassie looking disappointed.

"Don't be silly my dear girl, Earth is a very powerful Element. I t can protect ones in dear need and attack with a relentlessness that doesn't die out when you attack other Elements with it."

"But why did she choose Earth, why would she think it would best suit me?" Allen asked wondering about that night when Veronica left."

"I think. and Im only getting this from her soul fragment. But I think she felt you were her grounding when she lost it or her shoulder to cry on. And someone that would always accept her whatever or whenever the circumstances." Eileen said taking a sip of her Ice Tea.

"But how could she have such strong feelings for a guy she barley knew?" said Cassie bringing over some fresh baked cookies on a plate.

"Did something happen when you first met her?" Eileen asked Allen.

"Well i was the one to find her half dead in the forest" Allen said remembering that day when he found her all bloody and beat up. And suddenly he realized that he never ever wanted to see Veronica like that again.

The elderly woman looked alert and she aske him if he had a picture of Veronica.

"I have one on my phone" Allen said digging into his pocket for his phone. He flipped it open and scrolled to the picture of Veronica sleeping against the log by the fire and one of her with paint on her face cheering him on in the football game. He handed the phone to the woman and she looked at the two pictures.

"This girl has gone through so many hardships" Eileen said sadly zooming in on Veronica's face.

"How can you tell?" Asked Cassie biting into a cookie.

"Her eyes my dear, her eyes" She said showing Cassie the picture then Allen.

"It just looks like she's happy " Cassie said

"Of course you wouldn't be able to see it but they say that the eyes are the gates to the soul. and her eyes if you look deep enough in them you can tell that she has gone through many hardships" Eleen said quietly. as she gave back Allen's phone. For the next hour or so Eileen talked about the Element Earth with Allen and Cassie, giving them advice and tips if a Seeker came or if they needed to protect themselves.
