It was going to be clear morning, about 8 degrees Celsius in a small town of Northern Quebec. It was the opening day of deer season and the Walker family were eager to get out. The Walker boys got up at 3 am, and got their gear ready. As it's the family ritual every year, Torrey their father, was making eggs, hash browns and bacon; making sure his two sons Adam and Allen were fueled for a full day of hunting. After breakfast Allen was taking his time grabbing his gun and clothing. Let me tell you a little bit about Allen, He's 16 years old and eats like a horse and never gains a pound, a typical teenage boy. When he heard his dad yelling from outside, were leaving with or without him in 5 minutes. Allen waiting to the last minute ran outside pulling up his pants, with his boots and his gun in the opposite hand. As he got into his dads 4x4 he said

"whats the rush? we got loads of time"

His eldest brother Adam laughed at him,

"It's a twenty minute drive to the hunting area, and it takes another half an hour to find and pick a spot " he told his younger brother still chuckling.

"And don't forget it takes some time to set up our deer stand and put the blind up" finished their dad as he turned on another gravel dirt road that was heading in the direction of a broad, lush, looming forest.

"I don't remember this road" said Adam as he looked around confused.

"It's a shortcut, my buddy told me about this road awhile ago and i decided we should try it out "

Answered their Dad as they found a suitable clearing to park their truck. The three Walker boys got out of the truck and claimed their guns and headed into the forest. Allen suddenly got the feeling that this forest, something about it was.... odd. Not understanding his sudden feeling he pushed it off his mind and focused on the task at hand. They were well into the forest now and their dad found a suitable spot, he set his gun against a large rock and opened the backpack he had brought.

"You know the drill Adam, put this on your brother and yourself then make sure the guns are in order, even though they are in order, just do a quick run through----"

"----to be safe." finished Adam smiling and turning to his brother with the face paint.

"You know i'm 16 not 10, i dont think i need to have paint on my face, much less have you put it on " Allen said eyeing his brother and the paint.

"Really, Mr.SmartyPants, well it happens to be that this paint doesn't only conceal your features, but it helps mask your smell to other animals, making it harder for them to detect you." Denounced to Allen, Adam had switched Allen's camo stick with lipstick the night before.

Allen, still not liking the mischievous look in his elder brothers eyes, reluctantly allowed his brother to put on the 'paint'. Geez i wonder what he's gonna do.... thought Allen as he watched his brother and his father do a quick check over of there guns.

"I'm ready" Allen said. Adam and their father turn around to see what looked like a vegas show girl.

"What in the name of God are you trying to prove, son?!"

"What, what are you looking at?" Allen said in a dazed look.

"Your face, It's red, purple and blue" Allen slowly turning his head and looking at Adam.

"Your sooooooo dead to me" said Allen as he jolted towards Adam, the father broke the two up.

"Were here to hunt, Adam you take the edge of the field, and Sally--- I mean Allen, Did i just say that out loud?" Laughing Torrey said

" you take the tree stand; And Im going to the river now"

"All right boys, Lets do some hunting!" exclaimed their dad. The two brothers nodded and were quickly swallowed up by the bushes and trees of the forest. After a couple hours of no luck with any deer, they decided to take a break.

"Darn it!! nothing, not even a rabbit! this is pathetic" whispered Adam fiercely to his dad, Torrey.

"Even if we don't get anything today, we can always come back tomorrow" answered his dad

"But what if---"

"Im gonna go refill my water bottle ok?" Allen said, knowing already he wasn't gonna get a response from his older brother and father who were in a heated discussion

"----- Now Adam, You know full well that........." The conversation between his dad and his brother slowly grew fainter and fainter in till Allen couldn't hear them at all. Allen quickly found a small stream of fresh water and refilled his water bottle. Just as he was getting ready to head back He heard a twig break and he turned slowly and saw a eight piont Buck, easily 250 pounds. His adrenaline started pumping, he heard his beating heart. He pulled up his rifle and he started to shake, and he remembers what his dad said:

Take three deep breaths and hold your second one half way.

And he pulled the trigger, and he shot the deer. Allen quickly followed after the deer and thought he had lost the trail. Allen, out of breath and sighing took a drink of his water, when disappointed in himself he started back to his father and brother. On his way back, he stepped over a rock and saw something. On closer inspection Allen found out it was blood , and that it was fresh. He quickly loaded his gun up and cautiously crept forward, following the slow trickle of blood. He emerged into a large clearing,

It was shaped like a disfigured oval. Both coniferous and deciduous trees lined it. The trees formed a large and thick canopy over head, only letting in just enough light in order for you to see across the clearing. Allen still following the trickle of blood came to a stop in the middle of the clearing the smell of blood was so strong it smelt like death. In the middle of a huge pile of blood was a deer, a big old buck to be precise. Allen knelt down to the ground and examined the buck. A gun wound was evident as he saw a circular puncture wound just behind the shoulder.

It's a nice shot, almost an instant kill. And realized that this was the deer he shot. Taking another look at the old buck , Allen realized that there was something underneath it. He set his gun down carefully and pushed the deer out of the way. Underneath the deer was a girl. Allen stared in disbelief.
