Chapter 4:

"Yes!" Shantyl flopped down into the couch, making Nikila and Treecko jerk up.

The pair of trainer and pokemon looked over to shoot her a disapproving look.

Shantyl ignored them as she held her hands open, letting her Mudkip jump into them.

The older sibling turned away in exasperation as the two began to cuddle, taking to stroking her Treecko instead.

They'd made it.

As Nikila relaxed back into the comfortable couch of the lobby in Viridian city's pokemon centre, she looked over around her.

The spacious room was occupied by very few people with most of the travelling trainers having turned in for the night already.

Almost all the years through, Viridian City had always lacked a gym leader to take charge of the Pokemon gym.

This could do with the fact that the actual gym leader had been a leader of the illegal organisation- Team Rocket.

Now, the gym had received a brand new gym leader and the city was crowded with Pokemon trainers both young and old, wanting to battle with him. There were all sorts of rumours of the man being extremely good and it didn't help that people didn't even know what pokemon he had.

Nikila and Shantyl had made it into the city just before dusk and had been surprised to see the usually calm, or so heard, city bustling with crowds upon crowds of people.

Niki glanced over at her younger sister.

Shan played with her mudkip, giving occasional squeals of excitement when the poor creature touched it's face.

She'd done nothing, nothing to acquaint herself with it's powers or tried to get data on the attacks the pokemon could use.

Nikila pulled her hair up into a ponytail as she scanned the almost empty room they sat in.

Treecko tracked his master's line of vision, senseing the sudden change in Niki's mood.

Trainers stood around, some chatting, some using the Pokemon Transfer units to communicate with their family.

Each person had atleast three full pokeballs hanging off their belts.

The few pokemon that walked around had strong bodies and looked extremely healthy.

The kind of glow a well trained pokemon would give.

And yet, Niki doubted even one of these people would be able to take down the new gym leader of Viridian city.

Glancing over at her sister once more, Niki began to make a plan.

A large forest full of powerful pokemon could be found just beyond the city.

Viridian City.

Niki and Shantyl would train or begin to learn how for the next few days.

There was nothing Shantyl could say that would change her mind.

Treecko's eyes widened a little and the radar like fin on Mudkip's head wavered.

Niki tilted her head in confusion just as the glass behind her shattered and an injured boy flew through to hit the large fountain in the middle of the lobby.

The sounds grew scattered and loud after that.

People shouted and screamed with others too paralyzed to react.

Niki watched in horror when Shan stopped the frightened scream that came from her mouth.

The boy who'd fallen in slowly rose from the fountain, dripping wet, an amused smile on his face.

His hand curled around a pokeball and a growling Houndour released from the orb, it's mouth a sneer as it bared it's fangs.

Niki felt other people help her and lead her away from the couch that'd been only a little distance away from the strong glass that had shattered.

From the smoke and rubble that lay in it's place, a dark figure emerged, his Espeon walking in front of him.

"You'd better tell me where it is, Nic." He said, not paying attention to the staring, injured people inside the Pokemon Centre.

The boy who'd been thrown in slowly got out of the fountain, a smile on his face, "You're going to have to make me."

Niki watched in horror as a Pschic beam from the crouching Espeon met the Shadow ball from the Houndour in a powerful explosion, destroying what was left of the lobby in Viridian City's Pokemon Centre.

A/N: I'm just going to go... watch an episode of Pokemon or something...
