In 2352, disagreements between leading nations on Earth over resources on newly discovered planets, lead to an all-out war throughout the parts of the galaxy that were inhabitated by humans.
During this devastating war, that lasted 24 years, several alliances where formed. The largest of these being the Universal Federation, and the People's Space Union, commonly known as the Federation and the Union. Although technically not at war anymore, tensions are high between the two alliances.
In the wake of the war, an area was established that separates the Federation and the Union, simply known as ''the zone''. Planets and moons in this zone, that once were mined excessively for valuable and rare metals, are now left in ruins. 33 years later, inhabitants of these former colonies, once rich miners, are now nothing more than scavengers.
In this world of poverty, starvation and anarchy, crime began to flourish.
One of these crimes: piracy.
