Chapter 8: Starbucks and a Monster attack

Celeste's POV

After finishing our drinks at Starbucks, we left. Suddenly, Annabeth, Percy, Katie, the Stolls and Nico stiffened. I could literally sense something was going to happen. Annabeth and Katie's hand flew to her side immediately. Percy took out a pen, Thalia reached for her back. The Stolls and Nico reached into their pockets. Suddenly, there was a loud growling, coming from a dog that was headed for us. But that dog wasn't any dog, it was huge. It was a hellhound, I recognised from Greek Mythology class. Both Nat and I screamed, Cass didn't look too surprised but she looked a little afraid. Cass exchanged a glance with Percy, and Percy nodded his head slightly. She pulled us into a bush nearby, as we watch the scene unfolding. Annabeth and Katie were holding daggers, the boys were holding a sword, and Thalia was holding a bow.

"Hiss...hiss...Perseus Jackson, I will kill you this time! And all your friends!" a few snake like women slithered out of the bushes on the opposite side.

"Kelli, you again? I guess I have to kill you and your friends again!" The fight started between the humans and monster-like creatures.

"What...is going on? Why are they holding rulers and attacking the cute little poodle and the few tiny snakes? We should call the SPCA, we can't let them kill some cute animals! That's animal cruelty!" Josh exclaimed while taking out his phone, Ben agreeing.

Cass leaned forward and stopped them, putting a finger to her lips, the universal sign of "keep quiet".

"Cass, why are they holding swords and daggers and why are there monsters?" I whispered.

Her eyes widened and she told me that she would explain later.

I realised suddenly that no, it wasn't just a poodle and tiny snakes. It was a hellhound and snake women, or rather Empousai, from Greek mythology. I also realised that the monsters were from one terrifying dream I had a few weeks back. Another thing: Annabeth was inside! So there was where I saw Annabeth! I'm not sure whether the rest were inside or not, though.

I came back into reality, watching the terrifying scene unfold right in front of my eyes again. The Hellhound had disappeared, and so did some of the Empousai, leaving one. I knew what was going to happen next but I couldn't do anything to stop it. The last Empousai bit into Annabeth's skin, just as Percy stabbed it and it disappeared. Annabeth collapsed to the ground with a loud thud. My first question: how did it disappear and where to? But the more important question: was Annabeth okay?

Immediately, Percy knelt next to Annabeth while Katie reached into her bag, dug out something and passed it to Percy. Percy immediately fed it to Annabeth. Suddenly, the wound where the Empousai left was visibly getting better, all her cuts disappeared. Woah, I thought, what did I just see?

"Cass, I think they should leave now, while we tend to Annabeth. She'll be alright in a few minutes, it's not that major." Cass glanced at Nat and I, then mouthed to Katie something I couldn't read.

Katie's eyes immediately widened and she said, "Celeste, Nat, stay here, we have to talk to you. Cass, Ben, Josh, go now!"

"But hey, we want to know what just happened! Why did you guys attack harmless little animals? Annabeth's really going to be okay?" Ben exclaimed.

Thalia suddenly snapped her fingers and said, "The animals attacked us instead. Annabeth is perfectly fine, nothing happened."

Ben and Josh shook their heads slightly, glanced at Annabeth in utter confusion, and left for home.

Okay...I really don't understand what's going on now...Ben and Josh don't seem to see the monsters, though. But the rest of us seem to see it, even Cass.

"Hey Annabeth, you alright? I just remembered, you look so familiar, because I saw you in a dream! And in the dream, we also got attacked by the monsters! They look like the monsters in Greek Mythology though..." I said.

Annabeth's POV

Katie had told me that Celeste could see the monsters clearly, Nat too. But now...What? Celeste saw me in my demigod dream? Oh my gods, I suddenly realised that I saw her in that particular dream that depicted the monster attacks just now! It wasn't a really scary event, but still...Celeste could see me in the dream! That means...she had the same dream...and it is a demigod dream...oh gods, is she a demigod? Are she and Nat the demigods Chiron asked us to look for?

"Celeste, it was just a dream. I had that dream too." I said
