The rain was thick and heavy.

It fell in round droplets, rolling off of a shaggy, black mop of hair, pooling into puddles in the cracks of the old brick ground.

Harry's eyes followed a particularly large drop of water drip off of his long, now soaking bangs, and land with a splash on the toe of his dirty trainers.

But Harry's mind was on anything but the rain.

"Oi! Kid!"

Harry's head snapped up toward the strangers voice.

"You gonna stand there all day? you're blockin the flow of traffic, boy!" Exclaimed the short, shabby looking muggle man.

"er- sorry." Harry muttered, but the man was already walking away, head shaking.

Harry considered being irritated, but then realized how strange he must look. he had been standing in front of the blank brick wall at King's Cross station, ready to pass through on to platform 9 3/4, but his mind slipped away and next thing he knew he had been idly standing here for 10 minutes.

This wasn't unusual to Harry, this kind of thing had been occurring a lot in the last several months since the end of the war. Harry supposed he were fine, although he suspected Hermione would say otherwise.

But how strange it seemed, to be standing in front of platform 9 3/4 with his trolley and trunk by his side, preparing to board the Hogwarts Express and attend a final year at Hogwarts. Although strange it may feel, Harry thought, he supposed it made sense. He, Ron, and Hermione had all been deprived of their final year at Hogwarts, as well as countless other students who hadn't gotten to experience a normal, magical year at Hogwarts like they were supposed to.

When they heard news about an "extra" eighth year being offered for their class, it seemed they would be stupid to exclude themselves from yet another year at the school.

After all, Hogwarts was the only place that had ever felt like home to Harry.

Snapping out of his daze, Harry drew in a quick breath and ran.

The reunion on the train was no doubt a happy one, although quieter than most the trio shared over past years on the train. Harry had seen Ron only a few weeks prior, but it felt great to see him and Hermione all the same, like he could face anything as long as he was with them. Harry managed to push his melancholy aside for the time being, and they boarded the train with soft laughter, careful smiles, and a warm wave of nostalgia falling over them like a cloak as the Hogwarts Express lurched to a start.
