Harry's heart momentarily stopped as the two boys instantly separated.

They parted just in time for the heavy classroom door to swing open, revealing the haggard silhouette of Argus Filch.

"Potter! Malfoy!" Filch hacked, jowls quivering. "I should think it to be you two! This room is not open to students!"

Filch's cat, Mrs. Norris, was winding herself around his ankles smugly. It was a bit of a nauseating sight to Harry.

"Well? Any excuses?" Filch spat, clearly pleased with himself.

Harry looked helplessly at Draco, who was looking quite red, and he was sure he looked it, too. He needed to do some fast thinking to get he and Malfoy out of this situation, or else... Harry didn't want to think about what might happen if he and Draco's intentions in the classroom were found out.

"We... We were looking for a book, for... Er- history of magic." Harry pulled a dusty, red-jacketed book off the wooden bookshelf nearby. "This'll be it."

Harry smiled fakely, and Draco nodded in agreement a little too enthusiastically.

Filch looked at them, squinting suspiciously.

"Well go on then! And ten points from each of your houses! And don't let Mrs. Norris catch you in an empty classroom again or its a month's detention!"

Sparing no time, Harry and Draco rushed out the door, past Filch and down the corridor.

Harry felt his face go hot. That was way too much of a close call than what he was comfortable with. If that rap of the door had been a student, or even if Filch had opened the door before knocking, word would've gotten around.

If they were caught, it would be the talk of the school. Potter snogged Malfoy, Harry could hear the shocked Griffindors' voices now...

And if Ron and Hermione found out... Well, Harry didn't want to think about that.

Walking side by side down the relatively empty corridor, Harry looked over at Draco, who was looking down at his feet, with his hands in his robe pockets. It was clear that the other boy was having a similar thought process.

"Close call, huh?" Harry said quietly.

Draco merely raised his eyebrows and
nodded.

"Well..." Harry began, "I reckon I'd better head to Gryffindor tower..."

"Yeah."

They were facing each other awkwardly, looking at each other but not quite meeting each other's eyes. Harry felt embarrassed, wondering how, or if he should say goodbye.

It didn't seems right to just leave wordlessly, but then it would be ridiculously foolish to try anything risky after what'd just happened.

Draco answered his question for him.

"So, um... I'll see you around... Harry."
He smiled slightly, running a hand through his neat blond tresses.

"Yeah." Harry returned the smirk.

Harry watched Draco walk slowly away from him and through the corridor, until the pale boy rounded a corner an disappeared.

Turning on his heel in the direction of Gryffindor tower, Harry thought to himself.

What he had with Draco Malfoy, whatever this was- it was going to be far more difficult than he'd realised.
