Now, in a happy story, Phil would've caught Dan just as he was leaving the house.
In a happy story, Phil would've apologised, and kissed Dan in the rain.

But, the author of this story is in a bad mood, so this isn't a happy story.

Dan went straight to the box he was picked up from.
He waited.
And he was found again.
This time, by a man named Ryan.
They went through the same process as Dan and Phil;
Become friends, make false promises, fall in love, the human snaps, and Dan goes back to the box.
And started the cycle again.
But, eventually, Dan grew tired of the ever repeating process, and he sort of clicked.
All emotions had been used, his tears no more because he had run out, and he was just tired.

Tired of the repeating the process.
Tired of being abused.
Tired of falling in love.
Tired of falling out of love.
Tired of everything.

So, he clicked, and shut everything off.
And, with the old ratty jumper he currently had, and the worn out sweat pants covering his legs, he ran.
He just ran and ran, until he stumbled upon a place where he would be alone, and happy.
Happiness, an emotion Dan felt he would only feel when excluded from the world.
He kept running into the place, which happened to be a forest, until he couldn't run any longer.
He climbed the closest tree and just.. Sat.
He sat on the highest branch he could reach, and thought.
He thought about Phil, who, Dan realised, was the only one he truly loved, but it was too late.
Dan didn't want to go back.
He wasn't going to go back.

A small weight on his head dragged him from his thoughts.
He shifted his eyes slightly to see the head of a bright red bird's head.
Dan smiled and held his hand up delicately for the bird to jump on to.
The bird seemingly sniffed his hand, before plopping itself on Dan's index finger.

The neko boy smiled, having immense fun just observing the small creature, his ears twitching in excitement and his tail swishing back and forth in happiness.

And here, Dan was perfectly content, with his bird friend -decidedly named Dil- and his particularly nice view of the rest of the forest.

Because he didn't need Phil.
He didn't need Ryan.
He didn't need anybody.
