Wrote this in 15 minutes bc I wanted to update 0.1/10 quality

Dan pretends that he doesn't see the hurt in Phil's expression when his replay is not heart filled.
But he does.
He does, and god damn does it sting.
There's a never ending pit of guilt that twisted in his stomach when sadness planted itself on Phil's face.

But he had to learn to love the man.
And he did his best.

"Dan, I love you."

The first time in their relationship either had said that sentence was on the eighteenth of March, 2010.
It had come from Phil (obviously), and he looked up with hopeful gleaming eyes.
He looked absolutely gutted when Dan just said "I know".
But he knew it was hard for the younger to say, for some secret reason.
So he waited.

"Oh my God, Dan, I looooove you sooo much."

The second point Dan remembered the most of Phil saying the three words was when he had come home drunk, and had fallen into Dan's arms with a wispy smile.

"I know," was the response Phil got.

Phil then broke down in tears, because his boyfriend didn't love him, and he might never do so.

"Why can't you love me Dan?!"
He had screamed and sobbed, tears on his cheeks, stumbling around their living room.

"I've waited like- like a year and you still haven't said it back. Am I not good enough? I can change, I promise, Dan, I love you!"

Phil was on the floor now, Dan next to him, rubbing gentle circles on his back.

"I know."

Those were the last words exchanged between the two that night.

The third main 'I love you' was the saddest.

"Dan, I.. I don't think we're going to work."

Dan's head snapped up to look at Phil.

"What do you mean? I think we're working fine," He said stiffly.

"Dan, you can't even say I love you. I've waited and waited, nearly four years and you still can't say it back. You've been getting distant lately. Is it because of the video? I don't know. We just don't work anymore."

Dan's world had crashed down.
"Oh.. Okay."

"Just remember that I love you, I always will."

"I know."

The very last I love you Dan had gotten was when Phil moved out, the sixth of May, 2015.

"I'm moving in with Jackson, Dan. He says he loves me. It's nice."

"Oh."

"Just, remember, Dan. I love you. I always will."

"I.. I love you too, Phil."

But it was too late.

Phil had someone to really care for him, not just make him wait.
Someone who would be good to him.

And to think, the whole situation had unfolded when the three words had, and had not, been said.

'I love you.'
