We stopped at our next destination; we hid below a bridge that was built above water. A beach on both sides, allowing only small boats to pass through.
Mitsuba and Kimizuki started a fire, as Shinoa and Yoichi went to go hunt some fish in the sea. Makato made sure the perimeters were safe. Mika and I went for a walk to find some resources. He wouldn't say anything.
"What the hell was that back there?" I began.
"What?" Mika said.
"Why were you being so harsh to that girl?"
"Oh, you mean that intruder?" Mika scoffed.
I lowered my eye lids in agitation to his words. "How would you know if she's an intruder? She looked afraid."
"Tch, maybe afraid of the fact that she could've gotten killed." Mika blurted out.
I grabbed Mika by his collar and pulled him to me. His expressionless face pissed me off a little. "What is wrong with you, Mika? Did something happen that I don't know about?"
"Like what?" Mika arched an eyebrow.
"Like your attitude is really worrying me. This isn't like you."
"It was never like me." Mika gently removed my hand from his collar, adjusting it.
I stared, feeling hopeless by those words. I know it isn't easy to change someone's personality. But him...? Mika should know better.
Mika walked ahead of me, and I caught up with him, keeping his pace. As I walked beside him, I couldn't help but think about that mysterious girl. She appeared out of nowhere, and tried to attack us. But now, she's being held hostage.
"That girl is going to be trouble for us if we let her go, if that's what you're thinking." Mika stated.
I stared at Mikaela unsure of what to think. "We should at least try to earn her trust to speak to us." I recommended.
"Trust? What is there to trust? She's the one who attacked us, and we have to earn her trust?!" Mika snapped at me.
"Mika, you need to understand that not everyone thinks before they act. We may not think that what she did was just, and it's not. But it doesn't mean that we have the rights to now cause harm to the one who failed to harm us."
"You sound like a pathetic dictator." Mika sighed.
Mika suddenly stopped. We were next to an old shack. It seemed to be a common place where people sold food. Mika hopped over the counter, to check what was behind. I stood from the other side, waiting to see what he would have found. "Nothing but trash." Mika kicked faulty items around.
"What about that?" I pointed at a box that sat on the ground in the dark corner of the shack.
Mika walked over to the box, and lifted it. It was quite heavy. He came over to me, dropping the box on the counter, and ripped it open. We peered inside, seeing that it was filled with flares.
"What are these doing here???" Mika asked.
"Maybe we can use these just in case an emergency occurs." I picked up the box, beginning my walk back to the campfire. Mika hopped back over and ran to catch up.
"What do you mean, in case of emergencies?" He asked.
"Say for instance, we're in the city, or a forest. Of course in the city, even though buildings are toppled over, there are still huge structures that blocks us from seeing whose there. With these flares, we can always fire one to signal where the other individual is."
